Accepting we didn’t deserve to win last night and coming away pleased with our overall performance ( except we should have peppered the goal more) I feel very frustrated about how Arsenal conducted themselves.

what you say is correct. However, the two yellows for the fella removed, they were harsh. we had 25 minutes against ten men. The chequebook won in the end.

Let's be honest the worst decision of the game was the 2nd yellow, if we was in arsenals position, we would have been fuming if their pen wasn't given and if eze's was given against us. As poor as the ref was we was gifted 30 mins against 10 men and couldn't make it count, I dont think we even had a shot on target did we ?

Just don't mention 'professional' fouls to me, it's cheating which, in any sport not just football, should never be allowed let alone encouraged.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

There was quite a bit of time wasting, but ironically the worst of it wasn't Tomiyasu on that throw in. Him going off took about two minutes, however. All of their subs and goal kicks took ages, their later throws took longer.I wouldn't think that 7 minutes was long enough. Personally don't feel that Tomiyasu did enough to get sent off. Some fouls against us were soft. That wasn't the worst reffing we're going to see as Palace fans this season. I was interested in the way Arsenal bought the penalty but ours was unconvincing. The game is so silly these days that we better look at that.

Totally agree, the game has taken on a silly element , the modern player has to be as adept at conning the ref and everyone else , as actually showing real ability on and off the ball. Players have basically embraced the same art that is the basis of professional wrestling, what you see is not what actually happened. Just a touch is all it needs the (actor,) player, does the rest. Looking at last nights penalty, really clever by Arsenal, that’s the game now. But two things one difficult to remedy, in real time, real life Johnson’s hands would probably not have brought down someone that didn’t want to go down. The second more worrying in some ways for the game was the block it’s illegal no matter how certain commentators view it. So what is the use of VAR? And if it’s thought the blocked player was blocked to easily we really are in trouble.

If it would be considered 'incorrect' to say Arsenal were cheating last night then the least I could say is that given the players at their disposal etc they certainly looked to be relying upon tactics outside of pure footballing ability to win the match. They wasted time at every available opportunity, threw themselves to the ground on multiple occasions (there was actually one incident, I think it was Partey, where his doing this was quite literal right in front of me, utterly ridiculous) and their football was not even admirable/entertaining to watch, employing underhand tactics as though this is clever or any achievement. All that said I think they did not deserve a win but more so that we deserved nothing from the match. We didn't seem to have any answers to the questions they asked of us especially when down to ten men. That aptly named Coote seemed intimidated and unfamiliar with the game being played around him with the sending off just one of many dubious decisions which I felt mostly boded in their favour. Were we to have got even a point my commentary would probably be more loaded toward praising of our team, who I think played very well beyond a lapse of concentration and lack of threat up top, but either way I'd like to believe I still would've thought it was a bit of a 'crap match'. C'est la vie and on to the next one. Brentford may well offer more for us, unlucky not to get the win there last season.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

You failed to mention Ayew going down under the slightest touch from the Arsenal defender to get him sent off!

Painter I rarely comment or reply on this forum but to say that my comment was unbiased is daft…did you go to the game last night?

The way Arsenal managed their play was embarrassing and could not be held up as a great advert for the beautiful game.

I fully sympathise with the view that, by current standards, the time added on to the 2nd half was woefully inadequate. However, the fact is that we could have played all night and still wouldn't have scored or even looked like scoring. We have to find a way to overcome our shortcomings - primarily our poor goalscoring record - then perhaps we will have the initiative in games like this and the likes of Arsenal won't have the opportunity to be so adept at "managing the game".
