I heard somewhere that since Edouard has signed for us only Zaha has scored more goals in the team.

If true I think that's a pretty good stat. I think a good season for him is on the cards. Hodgson does like a settled team so he will get the run out he deserves.

Apologies if there is already a thread on this.

He's our most skilled striker but that's not saying much when the competition is Mateta. I believe he's quite a gifted player but, frankly, is also a bit lazy and not that brave in the challenge. Watch how he pulls out of challenges or tries to jump the challenges of defenders. Mateta's the enigma as he's 7ft 3 but crap in the air. Edouard is tall and probably slightly better in the air than Mateta but not great.
Where Edouard is good - is his technical striking of the ball. He likes to find the corner of the net and doesn't really hit first time shots. It's what's lacking in us in general. He always takes an extra touch - like Wilf did. The opposition get back to block. Paradoxically, the goal against Sheffield required nothing except touching the ball in. That's not our usual goal as we don't get them on a plate that often. My own opinion is that Sheffield are awful, probably Luton too - but I struggle to think of a third team being that bad.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Agree, most of the time he is anonymous, lazy and if I was a centre half I would love playing against him. Simply, doesn’t do enough.
We seem to have an aversion to signing a centre forward who has movement and can make a defence work. At least with Mateta there was a physical presence albeit lacking in the skills department!

About 1in 4.5 same as JPM. He has 5 assists to JPM 1. He’s 25 now, still young. He looked okay last night didn’t do to bad holding up the ball and linking play. He needs a big season, he was only 22 when we signed him so fingers crossed will click for him this year.

What's the difference in game time given between them though? Edouard although looked to put more effort in last night, seems to either suffer from having zero confidence or just can't cut it in the Premier league. The open chance header for him last night summed him up. He looks the same as Benteke, has glimpses of excellence followed by ample missed chances. Obviously I hope he improves this season and scores a boat load but I can't see him doing so.

I think his close ball control looked quite good last night and made some good layoffs, but at the critical moment in the penalty area he all too often misfires.

Surely people have seen enough of Edouard to conclude that he’s not the answer to our striking problems?
He’s shown flashes of talent in the last couple of seasons , but nowhere near enough to be our first choice striker.
If Olise and Zaha were available to us I suspect Roy would play Ayew down the middle with Edouard benched.
He can’t head a ball , rarely strikes the ball cleanly and has poor movement in the penalty area.
If he could the above you may be able to excuse his lack of contribution as a target man .
I’d be concerned if Edouard is still first choice in six weeks time.
It would either mean we haven’t strengthened or haven’t got others available.

including arsenal yesterday

Edouard has 3551 minutes of Premier league play and has scored 12

he scores 1 goal roughly every 296 minutes or 1 goal in c. 3 and a third games

Mateta has 2119 minutes of premier league play and has scored 8 goals

he scores 1 goal every 265 minutes or roughly 1 goal in every 3 games.

arguably mateta is better than Edouard when he plays , but mateta is less fit and is often only really able to do 60 minutes of 90.

Seriously? 7 goals last season and 6 the season before is the only stat you need and it goes without saying, it’s no-where near good enough
