There are around 200 games tomorrow. Check the fixtures and you may find one that is close to you to get your first fix of the year.

My local team Sittingbourne are playing Jersey Bulls in the cup tomorrow, which was a game that interested me until I decided to get tickets for the Lyon game.

Oh sorry, I thought you was talking some local non-league team of yours, thankfully Palace don’t have to slug it out in August just trying to qualify

I can’t remember but did all league clubs used to ever enter in round 1 proper. Wont Google it, just wondered really.

Yes, this was commonplace in the early days of the FA Cup. Of course, in the very early days, every club that entered took part in the first round, unless they happened to receive a bye. As the number of teams increased, qualifying rounds were introduced and therefore a 'first round proper' when the league clubs came in. And so on, but I don't know when it got so big that the top two divisions ended up exempt until round 3.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

The highlight of my footballing days was a 2 minuite substitute appearance in the FA Cup 1st qualifying round (198 and I didn't even get a kick of the ball

Great comp back in the day that fullfilled or busted the dreams of every footballer nomatter how useless we were

Sittingbourne FC drew at home to Jersey Bulls Saturday and have a rare occurance tonight, as the replay is also in Sittingbourne.

I believe Jersey had to agree to this among other things if they were allowed to play in a league or cup competition on the mainland

As a regular watcher of Welling United back in the day (and still from a distance) I was intrigued to see that a team called Welling Town was playing in the qualifying round at the weekend. I looked them up and discovered that although they were formed in Welling, they play at Chatham! Anyway, they were hammered by Cobham.

Meanwhile another former local team of mine, Erith and Belvedere, who play at Welling United (!) had a fine 6-0 away win.

I went to a lot of Welling United games back in the 80’s and 90’s when I lived in Bromley and Sidcup. I remember they had a striker called Gary Abbott, he was a beast of a non-league striker, powerful and knew where the goal was
