Evening all.

So how's the new season going to pan out? Are you optimistic?

I feel my usual trepidation. Should we have invested in a decent striker? I know it's fantasy land, a decent striker is beyond the purse strings.

I think it's another "let's not be relagated" season. Hopefully we can pull off some surprise wins along the way. Perhaps one of our frontmen gets the golden touch in front of goal. Be good wouldn't it.

What do you think?

We should stay up - but you never fully know with us. Olise being out is a worry. If I were to guess we'll finish around 14th or perhaps higher.
I'd like a cup run - which might be feasible if we're comfortable enough. I'm expecting maybe two really poor sides but third from bottom will be hard fought. I still wouldn't think us.
There are a couple of issues this season: Chelsea won't be as bad. We're not as good as teams like Spurs - who aren't great in my opinion. West Ham and Everton seem to never go down and there are now five other huge clubs other than Man City. And then some that spend loads - obviously not us. Bottom is getting crowded.
We're in with teams like Wolves perhaps at best, Everton at worst.

I think you have the same mentality as the board, and that's why Palace will always be seen as a small club.

No ambition. Content to just scrape enough points to stay up.

After 11 years in this league there should be some progression, and at least no fear or trepidation.

We should be finishing above:

Luton
Sheffield Utd
Brentford
Wolves
Fulham
Forest
Burnley
Everton
Bournemouth

And possibly above:

Brighton
West Ham

It's not having the same mentality. It's what we've learned to expect. Without backers willing to spend big, its unrealistic to expect more.

We have to be realistic and accept we cant compete with half the league financially and are here to make up the numbers .

Anywhere between 9th and 11th will be a decent enough season 8th would be like winning the league and 12th -17th a backward step .

All depends on where we strengthen if anywhere and who we lose .Our squad looks a bit light as it stands even without the usual injury list to deal with

On the optimistic side we have Roy and his team of coaches , some very good players and a result or two against the big boys in us

So no change then .

As Roy says, we should be aiming for top 10. On paper our team is good enough.

We have a couple of weak links in the squad but so do all teams. Lets hope we can keep Ghehi and Andersen and perhaps pick up some fullbacks and a striker who knows how to find the onion bag. The players seem to respond to Roy so I'm confident of a good season.

I expect we'll finish between 9th-13th, 50ish points and as usual, nowhere near relegation. With some luck, we can hopefully have a run in either of the cups. I've no idea why we don't go out for the League Cup - we're exactly the sort of mid table prem team who should target this as a realistic chance of winning major silverware.

The regular pessimistic pre season relegation chat is all rather tiresome, but expected, on here.
