Feel like it is constantly coming up so worthy of own thread. I love Paddy, his screaming face at Hillsborough a cult image for me. Was a commanding CB who performed consistently, Irish (both my parents are) and a Palace hero when we needed one. The idea of him becoming our manager off the back of his long connection with the club is very romantic however I am a romantic and would love to see it but of course only if it works out. He’s apparently done his badges, helped with the youth set up and been part of the coaching team a while now. I do question however whether this is even remotely realistic for a couple of reasons: 1. Does the romantic notion and a bit of management of junior levels qualify him for a PL job? Almost certainly not. I almost feel like I am ‘out of the know’ given it’s frequency in suggestion so maybe there is more to it however I’d genuinely be beyond shocked were it to happen. The only way I can see it is if Roy does bring a real healthy stability come end of this season and Paddy is seen as both the cheaper and easier, if not only, option for the board. Have to say it would raise an eyebrow from me at the very least albeit I’d throw my usual full support behind him.

I remember hearing a short conversation with Dougie Freedman, shortly after George Burley had gone and we were without a manager Dougie's name had not come up. But his words, I can't remember now, made sense and were persuasive and I wondered immediately if you he could be the one. It proved right and laid the foundation for the present team. More recently I heard similar from Paddy speaking to a youth team, he too was persuasive and made good points, a man who can reach footballers. Just saying

I’m not saying there’s no merit in it whatsoever I think I’ve just been trying to distinguish between any actual substance and mere ‘fan’ pipe dream!

Ive known quite a few companies who, when someone has come up through the ranks / spent quite a few years in one environment I guess what I am saying is that although Paddy has his coaching badges, has been U18 manager, under 21 Manager & is no doubt learning on the job under Roy / Ray at a certain point in time it may be sensible for him to either leave the club for his first managerial position or transfer to another one of the Eagle football clubs in the group to establish himself as a Manager in that environment. Whether he returns couple seasons later / further down the road obviously remains to be seen but I feel its kinda like a Steven Gerrard thing where if one day he becomes Liverpool manager, with his background with the club no one will be surprised.

Like Nick I really hope its the plan and that it works out ,Paddy leads us into the glory years and we all die happy men . Its a bit of a leap though taking charge of a premier league club ,Id go for it but wouldn't be suprised if it went tits.

Has any manager made that leap? If he had a couple of good seasons in the top half of the Championship that would tell us a lot more but then how do you get an ambitious Championship team to take him now? I think he needs more time to build his managerial skills out in the real world first.

The thing is our Paddy knows our club as much as we do. You can't be here as long as he has and not get it. We are a family based club forever fighting way above are financial reality. If you want silverware glory euro nights best you try else where. But if you want a rollercoaster ride with your family and your mates strap yourself in
