Was thinking about how Zaha, our best player, has probably walked away on a free and we seemingly have minimal budget to replace him.

According to Transfermarkt.com, this is the money we have earnt from player sales since we came up. It's in Euros because I don't know how to change the currency on the site.

13/14 - €0
14/15 - €2.87m (Campana, O'Keefe)
15/16 - €5.40m (Murray)
16/17 - €50.20m (Bolasie, Gayle, McCarthy, Jedinak)
17/18 - €3.00m (Mandanda)
18/19 - €0
19/20 - €55.00m (Wan-Bissaka)
20/21 - €20m (Sorloth - Though pretty sure it was half this amount as we split it?)
21/22 - €0
22/23 - €5.46m (Benteke)

Those values add up to €141.93m, about £121m. Every other player who left was for nothing.

That's not very much for 10 years in the league. Brighton, for example, have sold £175m worth of players in the last two seasons and are using the money to invest in more talent.

We know that we're not going to have the budget to compete at the top end of the league so we simply have to start getting better at selling at the right time for maximum profit and reinvesting.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

In my mind, I thought our recent purchases were in recognition of this.

I’d dare to suggest the model of the club has been focussed upon short term solutions to merely stay within the top tier of English football and ROI in players focussed upon this goal. Having the likes of Eze, Olise, Mateta, Edouard, Doucoure and Guehi on our books has not only brought better quality in terms of football but players who are yet to even peak. There’s even Malcolm and Scott Banks in the wings (if not on them) and the academy. Not all of these will work out with none guaranteed to however it’s surely more promising than £60mil odd on Benteke and Sakho.

If that’s the start of a new approach which hopefully continues then we will not only, again hopefully, see a better football team at Selhurst park but one which can turn a profit too when the bigger clubs come inevitably poaching.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Totally agree with all that. Going on from that, i saw this on the clubs website about the 3 lads who have just signed their 1st professional contracts & more importantly, the lads who have been given extended contracts.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Completely. Players like Cahill were never designed to do more than keep us up.

I think now though that mindset has to change and we need to start trading better.

For example, Eze has 2 years left on his contract. Unless he signs a new deal we're probably looking at something like £40m for him this summer, £15-20 next summer and then nothing after that.

He's probably my favourite player at the club and I don't want him to go but given that he's just made his England debut and his value is probably currently at the highest it's been, this is the sort of thing we probably ought to consider if it means buying 2/3 £15m players to strengthen the squad.

Did you notice in that list of players that we have signed Chimaechi Eze the younger brother of our other Eze.

Unfortunately due to a myriad of factors we have consistently purchased players in and around their 'peak'

Its brought us short term benefits, as almost every player has been ready to come into the first team and help.

But we've also experienced huge declines in performance and no sell on value.

Buying younger helps to combat those 2 issues, but it isn't without its own dangers.

They aren't always going to be ready to perform.

They may never make the grade

Four sides including Liverpool very keen on signing Marc, who is contracted to us until 2026.
Figures around £60m being mentioned.
Would we prepared to consider offers in this region or is it all press speculation??

If Balogun is worth 50m then I'd want 80m plus for Guehi. He's 22, English (a premium for that) and an English international who is well placed to become a regular fixture in England's back line once Maguire is ditched.

Marc is much in demand and we are in no hurry to sell,so should demand a huge asking price.

Much of the noise has come from rags, linked to the clubs concerned. It’s not just Marc, but Andersen as well, and that is no surprise, as they are both pretty useful in their own ways.
It’s going to happen the big money clubs see a bit of decent form anywhere and the very least they do is rattle the cage and very often unsettle the player.
Every player has his price, as far as Palace are concerned that price has to be around £60 mill for either of these two . Next season 24/25 maybe it could suit Palace , to consider a sale but right now it’s not likely, unless someone went well beyond £60 mill then who knows.

Hopefully he’ll be better than Benteke’s brother, what a waste of time that signing was
