This may well be true as the player had been offered a contract by Palace but had not accepted it as of the date the Academy retained and released list was issued.

His loan spell at Shrewsbury was no more than Okish, and he's never struck me as PL material.

If he is going then I do wish him well. Players can make a reasonable living from the lower leagues.

I thought that there was quite a bit of potential in him. His style of play as a no 9 reminded me of Murray. I'm pretty sure he'll have a half decent career. Mainly due to a willingness to run and put himself about - which neither of ours do at all.

He's always been a worker and that should hold him in good stead at Cheltenham etc. He puts himself around and let's defenders know he's there. As to his potential, he had it a couple of year's ago, but IMO he doesn't seem to have progressed since.

His younger brother 'Sesame' takes cares of the U 9's and below.

In all seriousness, I had high hopes for Rob but I am more than aware of the rose tinted glasses that come with any view on our youth products.

Best of luck to him and still very early days for the kid.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Isn't there a clause with free transfers that if they come from your academy and you offer them a contract - then you receive compensation and a sell on amount if they sign for someone else? Not sure really but had a feeling that's how it works. It could have a 21 age limit, again not sure.
If true, that would mean we hadn't offered a contract.

No whines about the so-called academy advances?

Street pre-dates them. Another few years before the fruits are borne...

good move all round.

He clearly wasn't going to make it at Palace, but should so well in the lower 2 divisions.

He'll be 22 in September and I think you may be right re the age limit for compensation. The club indicated that they had offered a contract. Presumably he's turned it down and is going off on a free which is his right.

Good to see him exploring other avenues.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Also, Cheltenham, like Shrewsbury (where he spent his loan last season) is a League 1 outfit so he's had a year to adjust to the rigours of the league.

Am I thinking of old rules but if a player is under 23 and his club offer him a contract but he goes to another club for a free aren't the club required to pay compensation?
