Croydon-born Sean Scannell (32) is a free agent after Div 2 side Grimsby Town decided not to offer him a new contract when his current one expires on June 30.
Because of injury, he has played little football over the past couple of seasons.
I recall he was a good servant to Palace, especially in our crisis season when we faced relegation to the third tier and possible extinction.
Here’s hoping he finds a new club.

I liked Scannell. Thought he had great potential. Unfortunately didn't work out for him.
I wish him well.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Yep, good luck to him.

I remember for a time thinking Sean Scannell and Lewis Grabban would both develop into players that would launch us to another level. Didn’t quite happen for them with us unfortunately plus some fella with the first name William, Wilbert or something came along.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Was more than a decent player for us, and was a nice grounded lad by all accounts.

I remember reading somewhere that after every home game, he could be seen waiting for a bus in South Norwood to get home.

Didn't Aston Villa once bid £3m for him?

Grabban played in the prem league (albeit he struggled at that level) but has had a very successful Championship scoring record and clubs have paid transfer fees of over £5m for him (Bournemouth and Forest) so i would say he has had a successful career, although clearly not with us.

Yeah he did quite well in the end.

I remember seeing him for B'mouth where he looked good, and a more 'senior' player for them which was quite shocking as I still thought of him as some academy player on our fringes lol

Lewis Grabban had two spells at Bournemouth. He was first signed by Paul Groves and later by Eddie Howe.
He had a good scoring record in his first spell but never scored on his return to the club.

I had been regularly checking the Grimsby match reports and wondered why he never seemed to be playing. Hope he can overcome his injury and gets picked up by another club.
