Yes we are safe but it feels like the season is over. I would have liked a last minute winner in the last game to keep us up! So now I just have to back the newbies to stay up and see some of the old firms take a tumble for once! Gotta keep the juices flowing...

I guess the last time we had a do or die last game was the Sheffield Wednesday match in the Championship. I can happily live without going through that again. To date we have not experienced a final game decider in the PL. Off the top of my head the latest we have left it was in 2017 when it wasn't until our penultimate game that we assured ourselves of safety. We beat Hull 4-0 and sent them down. That was a top day out! We all dream of a team of Alan Lee's! How about a last min winner against Forrest to finish top half

You missed out that it was Hull, Pete (for completeness, with apologies).

I do know where you’re coming from, Stockport and Sheffield Wednesday are two of our most memorable games, Charlton would’ve been as well if we’d survived

Oldies like me may remember us beating Burnley in the final game of 1982/83 to stay in Division 2 at Burnley's expense. Our previous home league game against Burnley was, of course, THAT GAME at the end of 1978/79. The previous season - 1981/82 - we beat Wrexham in our last HOME game to stay in Division 2 at Wrexham's expense, although we did have one more league game after that; away to Newcastle, which we lost.

And I was thinking all Palace fans are fairweather glory hunters. I just bask in the glow of our trophy cabinet.

Good call, I forgot about that, it was a small crowd compared to 79, I think it was 22,000, but considering how bad our crowds had got it was a big turn out. Although I think there was a lot of Charlton and Millwall there hoping to see us relegated

Last game of 78/79 - 2nd Division champions, " the team of the 80s", a book entitled 'There and back again' Last game of 1982/83 - 90 minutes away from relegation to the third division, a poor, poor side but no book entitled '(nearly) all the way back again'

The club and team were seriously in decline, but awaydays were great, we were crap, but the result didn’t always matter, it was about going into enemy territory with your team and having a laugh with your mates. scoring a goal or scraping a point was a bonus and something to celebrate, especially as it didn’t happen often. I’d love a book of nearly all the way back again, it would bring back memories in a time when we really didn’t give a s*** about winning or how much the players were on etc
