I can't recall seeing Palace winning 4-3 at Selhurst Park. When was the last time it happened? Surely it has, I just can't think when!

Wright and Bright got a brace apiece, the latter getting his first top flight goals that day, including a cracking winner. The details are wedged in my mind because I was at the beginning of my Palace supporting life where you take all these things in on a deeper level. It was considered a bit of a mini classic I think, as Palace soon started selling commemorative VHS video tapes of the game in the club shop. I know because I had one, and nearly wore it out I watched it so often. It was our first season in the top flight under Coppell. Many will remember that we recovered from an early 9-0 mauling at Liverpool to reach the cup final at their expense (another 4-3) but what is less often mentioned is that (I'm pretty sure) we did the home and away double over all three south London local rivals that season. It'll be a fair while before us, Millwall, Charlton and Wimbledon will all be in the top flight together for us to repeat that little feat. If I've misremembered any of this then apologies!

Great stuff. For younger viewers wondering what Hopkin was up to, you could pass the ball back to your goalkeepers hands in those days. Not that it makes much difference when you lob him!

There was of course another famous 4-3 victory but not at Selhurst Park and not in 90 minutes
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

I just cracked up at Andy Gray charging down the ball 'fairly' for the winner. You don't get tackles like that anymore.

We beat Wimbledon 4-3 at Selhurst in October 1990. I'm pretty sure this was also the game when John Salako had to replace the injured Nigel Martyn in goal.

We beat barnsley 4-3 in mid or late 90’s first game of season I believe
“This is a crisis, a large crisis.... in fact if you have a moment, it’s a 12 storey crisis, magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24 hour portage , and an enormous sign on the roof saying “This , is a large crisis” - Edmund Blackadder |
