Its a lesson for the kids that you get nothing at big clubs you dont fight for and your not fighting if your standing on the side of the pitch . A homer ref that will go far in Spanish football

Down right cheating i reckon . You can see the physio looking to see where the Palace players were and nearly fell over in his rush to get off the pitch so they could take the free quickly . Not a Palace player on the pitch , Very naive.

What is the referee doing, allowing this type of thing? And the player celebrating like he scored a worldie? Embarrassing all round. I'd be ashamed if it was the other way round.

Reminds me of a certain goal Arsenal scored when Henry had to stand in front of the mic and describe their opportunistic goal as an "accident". On point, unless the ref could say the ball was moving or hang something similar, he had no choice but to award it. Barca won 4-0 by the way. Nothing turned on it.

As a qualified referee here's my take. There's nothing wrong from a laws of the game perspective with this goal. Even at Sunday League level there has been an increase in the last few seasons of players and managers thinking that when somebody is injured and the physio comes on that they can all go to the side of the pitch for a drink and a team talk. I've no idea why this has suddenly become a trend but it's not right. Designated drinks breaks are decided before the match when the weather warrants it. Ultimately the laws of the game state that no player can leave the field of play or re-enter it without the referees permission. I don't mean to come across as a a school teacher here!! But when a player is injured just stay where you are ready for the game to continue. An entire team should not be leaving the pitch or huddled together. But from a moral aspect I agree that what Barca did is wrong... I would suggest it's an important lesson learned for these youngsters and their coaches. Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |
