Your driving to work it’s 7am & your phone rings
It’s the boss
Your not far from the front gate to car park
You boss says “ your fired”

What would you do not ?
Will you accept the decision & then have to call two other guys in you management team
Will you drive through the gates & speak to your co workers
Will you create your defense on reasons why it has not be to plan - lack of resources
In summer & Jan compared to other clubs

I hope what I heard on TalkSport Parish had the balls to not call him
but have a face to face and part ways like a decent boss

There’s also a safety concern, assuming the phone is on hands free the shock could result in a loss of concentration & a crash

Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season?

From what I understand this was not a shock decision. PV had already suggested he fancied the Leeds job some time ago and apparently we would not have stood in his way. He also went missing a couple of times recently for reasons unknown. My reading of it was everything except the final decision had already been made so I don’t think it really matters how it was relayed to him.

I wouldn’t necessarily consider TalkSport as a bastion of truthfulness anyway as they have history for some dubious commentary.

Apparently, if report I read is true, he was due to take charge on Sunday. They have had concerns whether he was up for a relegation battle but when they tried to get hold of him on Thursday he had gone off grid (not for the first time) and so couldn't speak to him.

Then when they finally got hold of him at 7am Friday morning it was made clear to them that he no longer had the motivation for the job.

There are a number of different stories doing the rounds and we don't know which are true and which are just speculation. I also read that PV had "gone off grid" but it didn't say what time of day or night it was when he wasn't answering his phone.

I also hadn't read that PV had said that he no longer had the motivation for the job as the articles that I read said that Parish had sacked him.

Still it could have been worse as ex England opening batsman Graeme Fowler told his wife that he was leaving her by fax

If someone is going off grid (especially a senior manager) either they are trying to get away from something (perhaps avoiding confrontation) or they are making plans for the future, interviews & stuff -

Sacked by phone call -I interviewed someone once who told me he was sacked from his previous position by text message - (& this was about 10 years ago so it shows how crappy things must have been at that company)

It had to be done by phone. If a meeting had been arranged PV would have sent along first name on the teamsheet Jeff Schlupp instead of him.

Really sounds like there's more than meets the eye. You can't help but read between the lines and look at the performances, then realise something's been going on since Christmas. Seems a usual Palace mess.

"Hello, you have reached the voicemail of Patrick Vieira. Patrick cannot take your call at the moment. Please leave a message and he will get back to you as soon as possible."
"Hello Pat, it's me, Steve, chairman of Crystal Palace FC, remember me? I just called to say you're fired. Come in to collect your belongings whenever you are ready and kindly take Osian with you, he keeps eating my doughnuts . No hard feelings, all the best for the future."

Professional.

The Forest game was obviously a disappointment, but the performances following the WC break were really unsettling - (Fulham / Tottenham / Southampton in the cup) it felt as though the wheels had fallen off, maybe there was stuff going on behind the scenes that affected the players more than anyone realised at the time -
