PALACE FOR EVER London 14 Mar 23 7.59pm | |
---|---|
The World Cup Finals for 2026 has been changed to 12 groups @ 4 teams. Top two in each group qualify & 8 best third-placed teams. So we start with 48 teams then @ the group stage only 16 teams get knocked out with 32 remaining after all those games that were played at the group stage. From then it will be last 32 teams @ knockout stage.
The pyramid to beat all pyramids!! Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in? |

The group stage will be like warm up matches for everyone but the minnows before the competition starts for real with the knockouts . EUFA qualification will be the same with 12 groups of 4 with winners of group qualifying and the 8 best second placed team entering a playoff to make 16 European nations in the finals England will end up playing 12 meaningless games before we meet anyone ,even Scotland have half a chance if the draw is kind Its been set up to get anyone thats anything to the latter stages of the finals ,big TV bucks ,lots of adverts and us lot having to stay up half the night to watch it .

For me every team that qualifies deserves 3 games. Groups of 3 don’t work out as games can be fixed or nothing to play for. In making it 48 teams they have given themselves these issues to resolve. Problem is that you can have a third place team in a group win it.

I got bored with the current format this will be a snooze fest until the knockout stage. Big teams that start badly will still have a good chance of qualifying thus robbing the fans the joy of watching a minnow knock out a big gun early on. Does anyone care about the Champions League format before the knock out stage?

if its a bigger tournament, requiring more quality infrastructure, even if its taking place over more days it almost automatically lends itself to either the bigger wealthier countries hosting it or it would need to be split between several smaller countries which I thought FIFA said they didnt want to do anymore some time ago -

I thought I remembered FIFA being against the multi destination competitions after South Korea partnered with Japan, maybe I got it wrong or maybe they have changed their mind in line with whatever makes the most Wonga in todays TV market - Originally posted by Badger11

Football is governed impeccably and I completely trust that everything that FIFA and UEFA do is for the good of the game. The average fan, too, will just get so much out of this.
