I got back from Jordan (29C) on Sunday to 4C, freezing my arse off. Stay safe on the roads folks.

Nowt in The Midlands. According to the BBC it was going to be the coldest night of the year with a sharp frost so I put the windscreen cover on the car but nothing happened here at all.

I was present at a local Non-League game last night and it certainly wasn't as cold as I had expected. No wind, no snow and not a drop of rain. At present there is no snow, just a tad wet underfoot as a result of overnight precipitation.

Maybe a couple of inches in Midhurst last night: turned to rain now. Nowhere near as cold as forecast - bit of a damp squib really. Guess the sledge doesn't get an airing after all.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

So much gumph comes from the tabloid press ( Sun, Mail, Express etc.) with regard to the weather with silly headlines like - temperatures to hit -15c, and the return of the Beast from the East to bring widespread snowfall. When you explore further you find that the -15c is just going to be in the tip of the far north of Scotland, and the predictions of heavy snow suddenly become qualified with words like "may", "might" and "possibly". In the South (East Sussex) we woke to a covering of snow which is now thawing.

But no cigar - just disruption with no pay off.

Crystal Palace park at 10am As Frank Zappa said, "don't eat the yellow snow" Cambrian mountains had snow on the peaks 2 days ago, but here on the coast the temperature is dropping and is now blowing a slight dust of snow. Car windscreen cover definitely going on tonight.
I disengage, I turn the page. |
