Just seen on Sky Sports News that his stats in the Prem for: Interceptions - 1st I didn’t expect him to be first for interceptions! I think he is showing in his first season at his young age and in-experience of the premier league his quality, alongside already proving to be an asset to the team and club.

Imagine for a moment having headless chicken Schlupp playing alongside you and then realise that Doucoure is actually the real deal. We lack in other areas but that's not down to him. There's been a few criticisms of him recently. I am not privy to the inspiration for these however, I'm a big fan. His biggest problem atm is he can't be a whole midfield on his own. Even Doucoure + Hughes, which looks a solid combo, is still not a whole midfield.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I think Doucoure likes to play as cm rather than dm so it's pretty impressive. When he has had the chance to go forward he hasn't been bad. As others have said, the issue is the whole midfield. He can't hold teams back single handedly - which these stats may be revealing he's having to do exactly that.

doucoure will be a star, when / if, playing in a balanced midfield.

Edited by southnorwoodhill (15 Feb 2023 4.57pm) Don't agree the extent of anger sent Schlupp's way (not his fault we don't have better), but agree with you on Doucore. Arguably our best player.

I think he is our best player - and is under stated this far. Next season , I think he will create a lot of admirers outside of selhurst. Those stats will not missed by teams higher than us in the table. We need to find a partner that compliments him and allows him to enjoy his own game.

I think he's been really good for us so far and with the signing of two midfielders and the return of Macca we now actually have some support for him. I think Hughes coming in has helped him too. My only criticism is that sometimes he spends a fraction too long on the ball giving the opposition a chance to steal it from him.

I think he is comfortable on the ball and tries to make a telling pass but from what I see a pass isn’t always on ( lack of movement or anticipation) and thus getting caught in possession as he doesn’t want to jus pass for passing sake.
