I'm worried about Humphrey Bogart we haven't heard from him in a while I hope he's okay. Factoid on Richard Greene, as a young up and coming actor in the late 1930's he started well and went off to Hollywood where he got more fan mail than Tyrone Power (think Leo or Brad in their pomp). However it was short lived and he never quite made it in the movies. Robin Hood is really his only major success shame for such a bright start.

That series employed several writers who'd been blacklisted in Hollywood as suspected communists. They slipped a few veiled references to the McCarthy hearings into the scripts.

Still on the topic of Robin Hood, but not Richard Greene, there was a musical in the 60s called Twang, based around the Robin Hood legend. The theme song for the TV series (those of a certain age will remember) started with the twang and thwack of an arrow being fired and hitting it's target. During recording one of the producers, a certain George Martin, came up with the idea of pinging a ruler on a table set up close to the microphone. Works well. Clearly the boy had a future.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
