Apparently this is our list of players who are 21 or over for the rest of the season. There are only 24 names. Ahamada and Olise don't need to be included as not 21 on 1st Jan 23. Some interesting (even eye-opening) first and middle names. 25 Squad players (*Home grown) Andersen, Joachim Christian

I see Olise won goal of the month and Nick Pope (Newcastle) Save of the month for stopping Mateta shot. Well done lads.

Surely there are other young 'uns who should be mentioned as "not listed", including the lad who made his debut recently as a late sub.

24 ‘senior’ players, of which one is permanently injured and won’t play (Ferguson) and two younger ones (Balmer and Hannan) that have never featured in the first team. So effectively 21 players only. I know under 21s are in addition to this, but how many other Premier League clubs are operating on this low number of ‘seniors’? Does this seem like good or wise management or giving Vieira sufficient resources to work with, especially after 10 years of Prem-level funding? Notts Forest have bought more players than this in the last year, let alone the likes of Chelsea who have too many players to name them all in their squad! Why do Palace always seem like the ones trying to do everything ‘on the cheap’?

Yes, but it’s how it is spent. Too much on players wages in total or too great an imbalance between individual players? I know he has gone now but around £100k per week on Benteke in the past. Now reputedly Eduoard on £94k rather than 2 players at £50k each, such as possibly on a par with Olise Originally posted by YT

Who is Ferguson? Surely a mythical figure. Apparently he is back in training with the first team now. If he could just stabilise and get his strength back and therefore avoid injury there is clearly a role to be played at right back. It is either a case of bad luck or something that won’t go away. I’m sure by the end of this term we will have a clearer picture. Here is hoping. The kid could come really good.

This is merely a theory but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of spending, including but particularly reckless and desperate spending, has been invested to keep us in the PL, successfully, for over a decade. Seems this way externally but that's always going to be with limited knowledge from a fan. Again just a guess, but mine is: 1. Smaller club, smaller stadium = less revenue Therefore club/owners are not going to go out and say "we're skint but giving it a good 'ol go" however we are working within sincere limitations comparatively. End result is a bit of ducking and diving in transfer market, lack of movement on stadium, ludicrously priced food etc. etc. My hope is that the plan is now looking towards more sustainable practice, like investing in young players, investing in the academy, attraction (media etc.) and hopefully improving stadium/capacity to build the club up. Frustratingly this will take time as we as fans will always see things window by window if not game by game. All musings from me so feel free to deconstruct or counter at will!
