Just a gentle muse, as i did some driving this week and passed-by some places that I've pencilled in to visit later this year.
The main one being Ironbridge, which I visited on a school trip as a child. The whole Industrial Revolution thing really fascinates me, probably inspired more recently by the re-runs of the late great Fred Dibnah programmes.
The two Coventry cathedrals standing aside each other, both completely stunning in demonstrating mans power of creation and destruction.
Living in Wales, there's plenty to see. Pentre Ifan, made from stones from the Preseli Hills is a favourite of mine to go to. Pentre Ifan is thought to have been constructed around 3000BC, and the same stone from Preseli were used to make Stonehenge

So does anyone else have some favourites ?

T'Pau were from Ironbridge. The most useless piece of information you're ever likely to hear.

They did have an album and single 'Bridge of Spies'. Just saying.

I didn't know that. Could come up on Eggheads. Was always just China in your Hand and the other one I've forgotten. Carole Decker wasn't the original singer - she was a ringer they got in to get popular.
Obviously, I've been to Ironbridge several times.
One thing interested in doing is the Camino. Sounds cool with a backpack full of beer and no kids and missus. I'm not religious - I love the history of religions.
Conway's a nice day out if you've never been. As an aside - last time I went to the city I noticed it was about thirty quid to visit the Tower of London. My memory is that it was free when I was a kid - am I right? And can we blame the munchkin mayor?

This is one thing I don't think we can blame Citizen Khan for. I took my daughters to The Tower probably 12/13 years ago and you had to pay admission. What I DO know is that the last execution at The Tower was a German spy in 1941 and the last prisoner to be held there (albeit briefly) was Rudolph Hess.

I had a freebie it was a good trip but I remember thinking it wasn't worth the cost. In general I think it's a bit cheeky that buildings we own and fund through our taxes we then have to pay an entrance fee for.

Exactly, let tourists pay but in theory the people own these buildings. I don't know the current charge - but it's high and I wasn't going to pay it.

Badger, you have lit the blue touchpaper. My one big trip this year is going to be Ironbridge, with , or without Carol Decker.

Jackfield, Ironbridge was at the hub of Victorian tile-making. If you like 'interesting stuff', I recommend a visit to the Jackfield Tile Museum.
