Euston shooting: Girl, 7, and five others injured near church [Link]

‘Drive by shooting in central London’

The capital continues to move forward under Khan, of course. A drive by shooting, not in one of the crime ridden suburbs, but right in the centre in Euston, severely injuring children and outside a church to boot.

I did feel the positives outweighed the negatives moving out of London 3 years ago. I still commute in for work of course. Having spent virtually all of my life as a resident of the city before moving out, I am now starting to understand the dodgy look from fellow English, particularly when abroad, and sentiments such as ‘London is a third world sh!thole’ (yes this was once said to me by a drunk Geordie who worked and lived there for a bit.)

I always thought I’d return eventually and am of course frequently there for family, palace etc however I no longer feel any particular need to make plans. I used to fiercely defend it and attack anyone who dared speak ill of Londres, now I feel as though I’ve switched sides!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

i used to love London. But that place doesn't exist anymore.

You walk past the Coliseum and wonder where all the Romans went. Or through Detroit and wonder about the Car Plant workers.

Or marvel at empty ruined villages in Connemara - alive & well before 1847. Wander the streets of Granada and try to imagine when the Alhambra was at its peak.

Outer-London Today is but the bones of the carcass. And zone 1 is a cross between Disneyland, Rogue Trader and Blade Runner.

Kayla did Anfield & Old Trafford

Damn! I thought there was a new game out.

Jokes aside, I moved out twenty years ago after the landlord of one of my local pubs, The Rising Sun in Rushey Green, was sent a bullet with his name on after refusing admittance to a punter. There's far more to the tale, but that's the nuts and bolts of it.

It wasn't the only reason, but it was the tipping point. My house went on the market that same week.

I knew that pub very well Tim… only from the outside however! Kudos for venturing in!

Dunno what age you are Nicholas, but it wasn't always so daunting. A bit rough maybe, but I would go for a booze with my Uncle Mike and Aunt Carol there, so not too bad I'd say. I won a karaoke there once, completely bladdered, and gave the prize to the bird who came second. Sadly, it didn't get me anywhere.

It was Catford! It's what you expect. Always was an 'edgy' place.

That's fair enough mate, my insight is mainly from sort of 2000's onwards. It was always mooted to me as a 'yardie' pub. Wasn't my reason for not venturing in however I was more on the Forest Hill side so plenty of options for battle cruisers there and no particular reason for me to venture to the establishment.

Did occasionally pop into the Ram around the corner however. Seemed to be the choice of destination for a few compatriots.
