I believe he was instrumental in a full England team travelling to Dublin to play Ireland in 1973 after Wales had refused to play. He was with John Pullin, and they called Willie-John Mcbride (an Ulsterman) for advice. Willie-John said that the IRA were more likely to shoot him than any England player and if he didn't go they may as well give up. The ret as they say is history.....RIP

The FULL match, Barbarians v New Zealand 1973, should be mandatory viewing for all sports fans. David Duckham - you will never see a performance like it. Imperious. I still regularly watch my old VHS copy! Duckham was a great player. It's just a shame that England rugby was in the doldrums when he was at his peak.
