(BBC) Has always been of great mystery to me, why the Catholic church promotes its most elderly priests to the position of Pope, when they only have a few miles left on the clock, so to speak.

Benedict was the last real pope. Fire & brimstone. Pope Francis is like a BBC gameshow with bright colours,smiling flags, jolly ribbons, and a doctrine that is barely passable as Christian.

On stepping down, he chose to be known as 'Pope emeritus', although I didn't learn that fact until today.

Not a lot of people know that! I'd just never heard the former Pope called 'emeritus' until today, and then I looked up the fact that he had chosen that description himself ie it wasn't a prescribed title.
