RIP Big Man. The bravery and dignity with which he faced Motor neurone disease was incredible as was his reaction to having his Lions tour ended by a vicious and cowardly assault. He was an inspirational sportsman.

Such sad news. He really was a lovely gentleman, displaying great spirit during his illness. My thoughts go out to all family and friends at this sad time. RIP Doddie.

Mrs YT is weeping about this right now. What a great bloke he was. He's immortalised in the opening chamber of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh. Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)
