One of our key scouts has left to head up the scouting team at Middlesborough.

I think this is a blow for the club. He is very highly regarded; you may recall we poached him from Norwich a couple of years ago and it was a bit of a coup for us at the time.

Do you think this will impact the ability to get the consistent quality of signings we've experienced over the last 2-3 windows?

not really. There's so much electronic data on every player in the world available, that the traditional role of the scout - ie actually going to matches and spotting talent - is less important. A lot us the Football Manager database because it's comprehensive and accurate. I'd say it's more about knowing what you're looking for by having a football ID/blueprint and then knowing how to make an approach/monitor once a player is identified.

Just the name of Chris Jones brings back early 80’s nightmares

I was at the game against Wolves when Chris Jones scored on his debut.Wolves went on to win the game 4-3.
I believe this was the game when goalkeeper Paul Barron committed a blooper resulting in a goal for the opposition.

Speaking from a position of ignorance, I doubt its a big deal.

Its not as though he has been poached from a top team.

And whilst I cant fault our recent signings, they hardly needed scouting.

I was there too, Paul Barron made Wayne Hennessey seem agile

I remember that game, think we went 2-0 up early on. God we had some awful strikers in that era, Chris Jones, Trevor Aylott, Tommy Langley, Ian Edwards...

You're stirring more bad memories from the past ! But Kevin Mabbutt was a rare bright spot, just a shame his Palace career was hampered by injury. After him I think the next decent strikers we had were Wright and Bright.

By the way, sorry to Lord Kevros for getting away from the subject.
