Last time you played one?

Played trivial pursuit last week after staying in a static caravan, no footy and tv was poop so why not , My son suggested monopoly but could not be asked spending hours wheeling and dealing, such a shame kids don't play these kind of games anymore being A child in the 80s it's the entertainment we grew up with.
Also played kerplunk, bukaroo and the game with the wooden blocks tower that you have to remove 1 by 1 without it collapsing every caravan seems to have one.

This is just a Christmas thing now. Every year, usually on Boxing Day, we settle down round the dining table with a couple of bottles, some chocolates and licorice allsorts for me to play an assortment of Go For Broke, Game of Life or Goldrush.

So, as you can tell from the games we play, nothing too intellectually challenging or time consuming. Just enough to maintain a tradition and satisfy the kids (who are now over 40).

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

My fiance and I play board games a lot.

Last week it was Yahtzee and Star Wars version of Labyrinth.

Been to a few good board game cafes including a newly opened one at Bexleyheath.

I have young kids and we play loads of board games. They're more common than what you might think as family and friends also play with their kids.

Also board game cafes are a bit of a thing. There's one in Croydon [Link]

The children's Monopoly version is pretty good as you can complete the game in 30-40-minutes, or if we run out of time before bed time we take a picture of the board, make a note of how much money everyone has, and start from that point next time.

Probably Backgammon. The trouble is I don't play it enough to see the options straight away, and annoy wife by spending time counting spaces and evaluating up my possible moves.

Trivial Pursuit a fair few years back. It was one of the first editions of the game, but the questions were still relevant.
Who is Ken Barlow 5hagging ?
What is Margaret Thatcher's favourite colour ?

As I get older i don't seem to have the stamina to play long games, or indeed the interest.

Actually, I recall a fearsome game of scrabble one Boxing Day. It lasted just one go (mine). I started with the seven letter word "ADVENTS", and immediately got challenged. Lacking a dictionary and the internet, a Jack Daniels-fuelled argument took hold and the game was eventually abandoned. Typical family Christmas

How could ADVENTS possibly be challenged? It's the plural of ADVENT (as a noun). Last advent + the previous advent = some advents e.g. "Of all the advents, which was your favourite?"

Anyway, I played Cluedo two weeks ago, but my favourite board game of all time is Totopoly.

At primary school, I was impressed by the FA Cup-related game called 'Wembley'; so much so that I spent hours making my own home-made version of it.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

My wife and I have a couple at home we pull out on occasions and would highly recommend: Tension and Articulate.

Tension: Essentially family fortunes (top ten list).

Articulate: Word chosen from one of a few categories and you have to explain the word to your teammate without saying the actual word. Some resort to something akin to Charades whilst playing this which is strictly prohibited!

Asides from that Triv is the only other one that sees the light of day but that is very much dependant on company. The world seems to not understand the value of knowing anything you can instantly google these days!

More 'quiz' than board games really but all good fun!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Wife and me are scrabble addicts. She can't play chess so I used to play with myself and then just did it online.

Edit: I used to be obsessed with Kingmaker for years. Basically you have control of various warring families during the War Of The Roses. Great, historical fun.

Bearing in mind it was Christmas time, my extended family members were fixated by the idea that Advent should start with a capital letter and was a singular event that could not be pluralised.
I tried arguing, with reference to the industrial Revolution, that there could be advents. However, trying to argue logic with competitors who have cumulatively consumed nearly 2 bottles of Jack Daniels is a battle you cannot win,...without using physical violence.
