I reckon Nat Clyne is good but Joel Ward is better! Still got a year or two at the top level. We don’t need AWB

I agree, AWB is not the player that left us, Manchester Lights turned his Head, So has to be Ward with Ferguson trying to be Connor Wickham !! I have always liked Ward, It was his clearance in the last Minuit of the play off final that got us into the Premiership, I think £350,000 for 10 years of service on sensible wages

Isn't Ward the only player to still be with us the entire time we've come back up to the prem. Yes there's Zaha too but he did take a pitstop at manure/Cardiff for a while. That's the epitome of loyalty.

Yeah I think Clyne for me. Love Wardy - but pace is such an important ingredient these days - and Clyne has more of it.

Thought Clyne was unlucky to lose his place after the Liverpool draw but then Ward played brilliantly at right back against Villa. Think both will play against City returning to a back 5 perhaps?

On Tuesday night (I know it was only Oxford) but I thought Nathanial Clyne was just about the most hard working & committed player on the pitch - he really put in a shift.

Let's face it there were a few seasons where it looked like he was on his way out, but he's managed to improve his game somewhat and stay in the first team. Unspectacular but solid.

Agree with all of that. In admission, I thought Clyne's return would be a damp squib however I still think he looks a more than capable RB who let's not forget has played at the highest level for some time now, it shows. Joel for me has left something to be desired at RB for some time now, I always had the opinion 'he'll do I suppose' but wanted for an upgrade. He has been a fantastic servant for us however, including tenure, which for me eradicates any desire to knock him too much. All that said, I thought he was superb against Villa and for me looked as though he had finally adapted his game so as not to (attempt to) be a 'flying wing-back' but a solid RB playing to his strengths and not exposing his weaknesses. All said and done I am not desperate for AWB just yet, I would always start Clyne with confidence JW can step in if and when necessary and spend any available funds elsewhere.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Didn't seem to click with Olise in the second half who was a bit sulky. Maybe down to good Oxford defending. They played pretty well.
I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry. |

Clyne for me.. He finished last season well and played well in the Arsenal and Liverpool games so I was surprised to see him dropped for the Villa game. Crazy if you think Ward has another couple of seasons of top flight football left.. If we want to progress then we need better players than Ward.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

Ward has been an admirable servant to the club and of course is in the twilight of his career so his best days are behind him.
