Mike Dean has admitted that he got Sundays decision on the hair pulling incident wrong and that the Spurs player should probably have got a red card and would have done if he had directed Taylor to look at the pitch side monitor.

Yet more staggering evidence as to just how useless referees are, we aren't all just subjectively imagining it. I still maintain VAR should be utilised like hawkeye or whatever it's called in Tennis. The Captain/manager should have 3 chances a game to challenge a decision that should be objectively decided upon. You get it right you keep your challenge, you get it wrong you lose it. The only concern would be disruption to the game however with the amount of time often spent on VAR now I would imagine it wouldn't make much difference and be quicker if anything, the only other time it should be used is for goals/red cards. I strongly suspect everybody in football would be against this as not to further expose the staggering incompetence of referees.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

In the final analysis referees are human beings operating in high pressure environments, having to make split-second decisions in real time in fast-moving games and of course err from time to time but I do not share the view that they display "Staggering incompetence". In the past whenever I have defended referees on HOL, the discussion has evolved into dastardly "Willo threads", accordingly I have no further comment on this matter.

I would strongly assert that their incompetence is 'staggering' Willo. To provide a balanced argument for my view on this, I had long hailed Michael Oliver as some sort of refereeing deity for no reason whatsoever aligned to my love and support of Palace. I just thought he was very good at his job and still do whilst acknowledging he is as fallible to human fault as anyone else, something I have articulated a number of times on this platform. Therefore it is not any stereotyped, subjective, heavily biased hysterics from a football fan for me, it is a very sincere view that many of them should not be in the role and a complete loss as to how we are not able to churn out such officials as the afore described. Not quite. He said he should have given the referee the final decision. He didn't say it probably was a red card or that Taylor probably would have given one. If I were the referee, I definitely would have booked him for it had I seen it. That isn't something VAR can decide on. I may be in the minority, but like Mike Dean at the time I didn't think it was a clear red card. It's a different level to a headbutt, a 2 footed lunge, a knee high challenge... the severity of the outcome is so much lower and it's not like Romero has dropped his bodyweight to add huge force to it. Is it that different to a push to the chest or squaring up which is always a yellow card? I'm all for the referee on the pitch making the decision provided referees feel that they can look at a decision pitchside and decide not to penalise which rarely seems to happen.

I dont think anybody minds if a decision goes to VAR, but a lot of people complain if it doesn't, it is simple for the ref to have a quick look, just do it.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

I still think Cucurella should get a haircut. When he was at Brighton someone on here ridiculed his appearance.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

He would/should have sent Taylor to look for a possible red Yes. Which does not mean that "the Spurs player ... would have (got a red card) if he had directed Taylor to look at the pitch side monitor." I personally don't think it was a red card. Mike Dean hasn't made any statement that he thinks it was a red card either. He simply says that the outcome is up for debate and the referee should have had the final say rather than Mike Dean. He could only ask him to look if he thought it was a red card incident.
