I think we have made some bad Decisions in contact renewals this summer, McArthur, Tomkins, Ayew and Clyne, and we should have given a two year contract to Kouyate, Schlupp can cover both wings better than Ayew, i hope AWB (loan) a strong DM and possibly another forward if PV thinks Plange is not good enough for cover, 24 days until Transfer window closes

Don’t agree about Clyne or Ayew

I'm with Spiderman on this one Lanzo. Not only do I think Clyne can do a decent job for us this season, I'm also not convinced that AWB is the answer. We need a RB that can do the attacking business as well as the defending for the way way PV wants us to play. AWB, despite having been a winger in the Academy has shown he's no great shakes going forward. Furthermore, there's the question of does he have the right attitude to fit into the Palace set-up?

Whilst Ayew is limited, we don't IMO have an experienced altr3ernative for that wing in games where the emphasis will be as much on defending down that wing as on attacking. Schlupp's ok on the left but hasn't done the business when tried on the right and neither Olise nor Ebiowei are ready for those types of games

Fair enough, Doombear, in an ideal world, i would like to see, a Tough DCM and an AJ style striker, before the window closes, because, in what i have seen in the friendlies, once Doucoure is up to speed he can be a box to box CM.

I’m happy with Clyne,he always looks decent to me, played well v Arsenal and with Ward and Ferguson as cover, much as we all love him, we don’t need AWB.
We definitely need a fit Jimmy Mac and Tommo
But Ayew I agree, he works hard, but we can do a lot better now surely!! I also agree about Kouyate, with Tommo quite often struggling for fitness, Kouyate can cover CB as well as midfield

I agree with the other posters. Those players offer something that others don't. Small steps.

Agree with majority of posts.

Clyne - I’m a fan. Thought his return was made on sentiment and therefore convenience so had doubts. Of course we’d all like the next Dani Alves there but content with Nat for time being especially in context of more pressing concerns.

Ayew - Do have a lot of love for him, but still struggle to understand what he is bringing to the team. Years gone by I was very forgiving but I don’t want him starting these days. I think provided both are fit Olise and Mal both have a lot more to offer, especially threat, and hope they deliver right-wing desires.

Forward - we’ve tried a variety of ‘target men’ for a while now and Edouard at best looks yet to find his feet. I like Mateta I really do but like most, I probably just want someone there who is hell bent singularly on scoring goals. I saw Leicester wanted to offload Iheanacho on bbc gossip column early in summer and would have been keen there.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Selling Benteke was a bad decision without a replacement lined up, you seem to have omitted!

Finally getting shot of that lazy drain on finances was the BEST decision we’ve made for a long time

Generally it's possible to see a logic and strategy to our approach.
However, I remain confused about Kouyate who apparently Forest are now interested in.
We've given extensions to the likes of Wickham and Benteke who have contributed little in recent seasons and yet we can't agree a deal with Kouyate who has made a substantial contribution to the team since he joined.
I doubt he's one of our big earners.
Even if you see Doucoure as a replacement (which I don't- they're different players) it's important to have alternatives and Kouyate also has versatility to play a role from the bench.
We've let an experienced tried and trusted player, who's a good phyical competitor and rarely injured, leave.
I'm not suggesting Kouyate is brilliant footballer and would not even necessarily see him as a regular starter, but he could still have made a significant contribution over the course of the season.
I know that he supposedly wanted 2 years, whereas we only offered 1, but surely he would still have had a value to us over 2 years.
If we had him under contract we would still have had a value in him after the first year.
