we all know that is normal in World Football.

Having just proven ourselves mustard in this League...our manager, our squad etc. Do we now fear getting robbed ?

maybe ok if they pay us off, but very hurtful when no money exchanges hands.

You may hate the top 6 clubs, but pause and reflect on the average Championship club when Crystal Palace gets on the phone.

My biggest fear is PV and Arsenal. But wanted to keep the thread open to all discussions.

It would help if sell-on fees were mandatory; it doesn't help that the money clubs can pick up players for peanuts and move them on for X millions.

To be fair, I can't think of a single time we've been truly 'mugged off' barring the fees both Sakho and Benteke commanded vs their overall contribution.

I think that owes a lot to the business acumen of Parish and co. Made a bit of dosh on Zaha and a lot off AWB at the very least and have yet to pay over the odds for anyone really. I'm sure we paid a bit of money for an absolute flop Norwegian striker at one point but £1000's of pounds and hours of therapy have put that to the back, if not out of my mind

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I don't see PV as being someone who will just cut and run or even let sentimentality play that much of a part in any of his decisions. He's always been very keen to downplay any historic connections, like us playing Spurs and it meaning more due to his Arsenal days, and has always been incredibly respectful and mindful of addressing everything as manager of CPFC, rather than Viera the ex-player.

I think he is enjoying it here and has the mindset and desire to stay here for a while before moving on. This is also his first season with us and there is no guarantee that it will be just as good next year.

I think the bigger risk is clubs coming in for our more saleable assets. The likes of Guehi, Olise, Anderson and Mitchell. If a club comes in with a silly offer then it will be something the club has to consider and manage carefully.

I'd love to see players like Olise, Guehi, Eze, Mitchell etc. all stay and grow at the club and take us to the next level. However, I am realistic enough to know that if off the back of a season where Olise showed glimpses of incredible potential and skill, if an offer for £60m came in for him when we had just bought him for £8m and it would allow us to bring in 4 more players to improve the team, we couldn't turn that down.

The big plus for me is that we seem to now have in place a structure and team that is capable of identifying and acquiring players with huge potential and the ability to improve the team. That team is also now complimented by a manager that is willing to embrace and utilise those players too.

We're creating an excellent model where we are replicating Leicester, buying unproven, young players with huge potential for low fees and them selling them on for huge numbers later on.

So let the 'bigger' clubs come in and offer us huge fees for our gems. If we sell one player for huge profit every year to then fund bringing in 3-4 new players with similar sell on potential and the ability to fund improvements to the club, then I am all for it. There will come a point where the sales have funded the club enough to have a team full of players that are at a level where they won't want to go anywhere and we don't need to sell.

From a position of 12th in the PL we are in a position where we could be both robbed of star players by those above us & we could just as likely be seen as the robber by the clubs below us-

A fair few Reading fans around here reckon we robbed Olise from them.

Hard to deny in retrospect.

Good post JB. I agree.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

That is assuming that the proceeds would be used to strengthen the squad as last time we sold a player for a huge amount the proceeds were used to repay shareholder loans

The thing is that Olise gets 34K a week and 4 players in would probably cost about 200k a week

That is Readings fault, he wanted to play on a bigger stage and Reading aren’t going to be in the Premier anytime soon.
