But aren't we equally insulting about Newcastle?

Yes we are. And I suspect the views about their club and their Saudi takeover is echoed in every club across the land. I have said before i lived in Newcastle for 3 years and went to many a home game and do not have this anti-Geordie attitude many Palace fans have. However, they do have a very isolationist and sometimes entitled outlook that can be irritating.

He doesn't seem to know for more than a couple of sentences whether he's talking about Mike Ashley, Palace fans, kick-off times, "poor Arsenal fans" (ironic), and so on. But, to clarify, he states almost at the end, "this article is really about just how good Newcastle United fans are." So there! Now you know!

I notice they took some quotes from HOL. While 'interesting' articles could certainly be written about the Politics section, as stated, none of this is really reflective of the club and fans as a whole. Criticism of teams or ribbing isn't hate, and they've just taken a handful of quotes by two or three people as if it means something profound about the fans as a whole. When push comes to shove most of their fans will be decent people, and most of ours are. It's a clickbait writeup really.

Personally I never even had an opinion about Newcastle fans until they started plaguing this forum during the Pardew era. Some of them came piling in saying how useless he was etc., and then hung around like a bad smell. Funnily enough, Pardew, for all his many flaws, has still been one of the most successful managers of both clubs over the last 20 years! The Newcastle takeover stirred up resentment about the modern state of football and the fact that the PL has increasingly become the playground for some of the ugliest members of the world elite. Fans aren't defined by the club they support so it's pointless generalising, but the fact polls showed most Newcastle fans were in favour of the takeover means they also have to accept people are going to point fingers. If you are willing to sell your soul to the devil then that's the cost.

He's probably still upset about this Hopefully we can thrash them again and he can continue hating cock-ah-knees.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Well, it's a strange, rambling article for sure. I think it's reasonable to expect their fans to feel slightly awkward about the club ownership so they can't be surprised if rivals focus on that in comments they make. He seems to suggest that our lot are poor supporters because we've not taken all the tickets originally made available for our game up there. Someone needs to explain to him that a Wednesday night trip to Newcastle 3 days after we've beaten Chelsea in an FA Cup semi final is not an altogether appealing prospect.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Well, it's a strange, rambling article for sure. It's pointless clickbait really, designed to stir things up. Even the title "Opinion Crystal Palace fans as good as Newcastle United fans? Really??" is ridiculous. Had better be careful what I say though, else we'll be helping to write a follow up piece for them!
