I was looking at the sub bench in the Arsenal match. If we had swopped the team with the subs I think we would have been just as competitive. Can't remember the last time I thought that. Feels good for the future.

Feels good for the future. You should have swapped an 'o' for an 'a' there. Agree though, good point. I've become accustomed to feeling doomed I tells ya without our perfect starting XI, feel slightly less apprehensive with any injuries, absentees etc these days.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

It's a pretty lopsided squad. Take a look at Arsenal who have a similar sort of squad set up. This is of course just one storyline of last night but take out their first choice wide defenders and they look very mortal. Make one of their CDMs play oop and they look even more mortal. You're dead right of course further upfield we are spoilt for choice. In any other season Edouard I imagine would be a shoo in week in week out. But lots of work to do in the summer to balance out the defence. It really doesn't happen often that you get away with playing almost the same back 4 all season.

I see an improvement in confidence as opposed to just an improvement in depth as there are a good few players who were there last season. It really looks like they all know what they are doing. Jimmy Mc and Edouard looked a bit fish out of water when they came on but they have had little game time so can be excused. I agree with the issue of a lack of defensive depth but we are just about home and hosed this season so we can resolve that over the summer.

Feels good for the future. I too looked at our bench and thought "wow". I'd be comfortable if any of those 9 were in the starting 11 if required. Reidelwald couldn't make the bench? It proves we know have a much deeper squad, but we have also had a decent run with injuries, a nice change. Think only Ferguson and Olise missing v Arsenal. Is that only a change of luck/ coincidence or have we made changes behind the scenes? Edited by Melbourne Eagle (06 Apr 2022 12.30pm)
