Watched this today - other than the first 15 mins we were brilliant..!! Got me thinking since when have we looked so good..?? Never under Hodgson - but a call out to Roy if it wasn’t for him we would never be in this position - so whatever happens from here on in, we need to remember and thank Roy and Ray for keeping us up with limited resources. On from that - we look so good don’t we..!! So hence my question - since when we have looked so good..?? I remember and watched the so called team of the 80’s - had some great players and included my personal number 1 - Kenny Sansom, I also loved Murphy. But Coppell’s team was better - Wright, Bright, Martyn, Thomas etc.. But is this team on the way to being potentially better..?? Our front 5 are frightening - the centre halves can play from the back - we play attractive and attacking football. I’m not saying for one moment we’re there yet - long way to go - but are we seeing the seeds of potentially the best Palace side yet..?? Thought I’d throw it out for debate - interested in thoughts. Wembley, Wembley, we’re the famous Crystal Palace and we’re going to Wembley..!! COYP

In my humble opinion, we've never looked this good. Sure, Coppell gave us good football, but so did Venables and other teams in earlier years. We have had loads of memorable times since I first started watching. In fact, football generally is so much better and more technically advanced today than it's ever been, therefore very difficult to compare. The quality of the pitches we play on today and the equipment used also plays a part in making the game faster and more precise. Players are fitter and their diets are strictly monitored. No more fry-ups before the game followed by a few pints after. So, yes, there's no doubt in my mind that we have never looked so good Plaistow. Personally, I'm enjoying being a Palace fan very much indeed at the moment. Long may it continue and thanks to Mr Parish, PV et al for making it happen. These are indeed exciting times to be a Palace fan.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

This is a brilliant team and will get even better. I believe it is better than our great 1990/91 team, purely because the league now is so more technically advanced, better coaches and there are so many more good teams now

Coppell’s team was great and a period in our history I’ll never forget but I also remember we were ultra defensive at times and not fun to watch. I especially remember a home game once which may have been against Wimbledon (it was a long time ago) when we set out from the off to not get beat when we should have been trying to win. We are much more inventive and exciting to watch under Vieira and never start a game looking for a 0-0 which we did under Coppell regularly.

After 9 consecutive years in the Premier League? Not sure that statement is entirely accurate or fair.

I echo these words... this team, playing at it's best, which we have seen a few times recently (it's not always easy reaching optimal levels) would bet any previous palace team. We remember the 90s, the dowie years, even the Holloway promotion - this team would beat any of those - why? not only as you say the standard has improved but we are another level now - we are an established prem side, young, hungry, clicking.

Agree. We're a decent striker away from being terrifyingly good I think.

Not better than, but definitely the best since 91, pretty obvious really, because when we got promoted in 97, it was a shambles and we went down pitifully and the 2004 promotion team, although had a bit more of a go at it, still went straight back down.

We seem to have half decent cover in most areas. I'd say we're a pretty solid team and probably the best we have been in this spell in the Premier League. Gallagher means so much though: that we can get some kind of replacement (or him) is crucial if we want to be a top half side. We're probably safely a mid table side even without him. Viera's tactics starting to work and we seem to have a core of a team who it suits. And thankfully we have certainly worked on set pieces.
