I liked him in "Only when I Laugh", but to be honest, I thought he'd popped off some years ago.

Touché, Rumpole. Touché. I loved him in Rumpole as fellow barrister and then Judge Featherstone. His strength was as a comic actor although he always said he was trained as a classics actor. Apparently missed out on the Good Life and I can see him playing the neighbour Jerry which Paul Eddington did so well. RIP you had a good career.

That beardy (Canadian?) bloke who did Finger Bobs complained that he was wasted as a trained Shakespearean actor.

A great actor and a real gentlemen. Apparently he was great mates with O'Toole and Finley. Must have had a good liver to keep up with those two!

Touché, Rumpole. Touché. I've been watching the re-run of Rumpole on Talking Pictures TV. Wonderful. God forbid anyone should ever attempt to do a remake - Leo McKern made that role his and it would be unimaginable anyone attempting to fill his shoes. Although past experience tells us that this wouldn't necessarily stop some production company from trying to do so.
