Not for their foremost attributes. but how they've developed. My top 3 in no particular order. Tyson Fury: A man at the top of his boxing game, and awash with money. He threw it all away to take the path of drink and drugs heading to oblivion. Volodymr Zelenskiy: Comedian. Not really a notable politician until the Russian invasion. Has stood with his Ukrainian people and demanded international assistance. While other world leaders dither and pontificate, he has truly become a leader of people. Magnificent. Alessandro "Alex" Zanardi: amazing CART driver and Champion. never quite reached the heights in F1, but returned to the USA where he suffered horrendous injuries in a racing crash. Anyone else for nominations ?

Winston Churchill for his inspirational leadership helping to win WW2. Joe Bonamasa for being my favourite blues guitarist. Bob Dylan, whose use of the English language and phenomenal volume of songs/poems transcend all others. Steve Parish who has transformed the status of our club. Jim Clark as a terrific driver of fast cars in any category (but I also agree withe FH about Zanardi). I'd also go along with Zelenskiy who I'm sure not many of us had even heard of a couple of weeks ago. He's been an inspiration to the Ukrainians.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

In footballing terms, Matt Busby. Nearly killed after a plane crash, and lost the kernel of a legendary team in the process. Once recovered he went on and built another legendary team. Not sure even Fergie could have achieved that.

all the unsung nerds who invented useful stuff. Many of them suffered for their art. Often they only made little money. Electricity, Telecoms, Pharma, Chemicals, machines etc.

Edited by PalazioVecchio (07 Mar 2022 10.50pm) Good shout but I wish people wouldn't say electricity was invented. It is a force of nature. Someone may have invented the ability to harness it, but it was already there.

Me, Me and Me
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |
