I noticed Sky were doing hit or miss on team's transfer windows. Personally think ours is a miss - Mateta was already here, so nothing added. Hopefully was cheap as reported.
Plane - for the future, may work out, may not.

I believe other teams have strengthened, those around us in particular.

I didn't expect us to buy anyone. That pretty much happened. A bland window at best.

I wasn't expecting much this window so I would say Par.

As long as we have plans for the summer I am fine with that.

As for others I think we all expected Newcastle to spend (5 signing) and Everton. What did surprise me was nothing for Watford.

Others around us have spent a fortune; and they had to.

History shows that clubs do not always prosper by chucking expensive "name" players into a team... often a high cost for no real progress. Everton are past masters at that.

And the teams that spent were largely basket cases where players will go into an unsettled environment. Only direct success may cause that to change.

We, on the other hand, started our transition much earlier, have done OK given the circumstances, and will likely float into about 12th place by May with the bank barely bruised.

And ready for the summer window.

Thus, always disappointed to not add more quality and would have loved VdB, but heh ho, we did not have a problem that needed desperate fixing.

Newcastle quietly spent £81,000,000 on transfers. They are going to make Man City and Chelsea's spending look like small potatoes.

The Premier League has been occupied by oil rich nations, an oligarch and investment firms.

In 5 years the top 3 will be Chelsea, City and Newcastle in no particular order. Liverpool and Man U will try their best to make up the other slot.

The death of top division football.

Everton manage to get around FFP with some ridiculous creative accounting. Newcastle buy a new defence. Watford go lucky dip with some cheap foreign players. Burnley appear to have signed a quality replacement for Wood but seem short on numbers still. Smith must be a bit fed up that no one came in at Norwich, especially as Cantwell left.

As for us, Mateta at a reduced fee seems good business. Derby fans seem to really rate Plange, so for £1m a good punt. If he doesn't work out we can probably get more selling him back to a Championship club. Would have been nice to get some real quality in, but our squad looks good enough already with Zaha and Kouyate returning this month and possibly McArthur.

I didn't expect us to buy which is okay. We have a squad that should keep us up. It would only have been worth splurging out if there had been a real must buy player out there. I wouldn't have put the likes of, for example, Ramsey and Nketiah in that bracket.

Along with many on here I wasn't expecting us to be doing any significant business, so I can't be disappointed. Yes, other clubs around and below us have spent money but how long will it take for the new line-ups at Newcastle and Everton, for example, to gel? We have a settled squad and that shouldn't be underestimated.

Making the Mateta move permanent at an apparently reduced price of less than £10m seems good business and the youngster, Plange, is the kind of cheap (in PL terms) punt that is worth taking.

Presumably next summer's window will focus on midfield and defence strengthening and I would expect DF & Co. to have potential targets in view.

When you consider we spent £1.8 million on Marco Gabbiadini over 30 years ago it makes the Plange deal look pretty good. Coincidentally, we sold Gabbiadini to Derby for £1m, so they did owe us almost a million quid.

Jeff Bourne was the best player we ever had from Derby. £30,000. Anyone remember him?

I reckon this window was a hit . We have a fairly good 1st team and not a bad bench . Im glad we didnt get held to randsom over Ramsey or Deli or any of the other over hyped and over priced prima donnas. The summer is the time to get the best deals . We need a few players in and a few out but all in all im happy .

It's been a very sensible window for January.

Watching Palace play this season has been a real joy, and it's still a work in progress. As relegation is unlikely (fingers crossed!) the rest of the season can be used to develop the current squad.

We've signed Mateta - hopefully giving him stability and confidence.

Aaron Ramsey is a great player but prone to injury, and has been on a ridiculously huge salary. Even if Palace only had to pay 25% of his wages that would be excessive. A bullet dodged.

Van de Beek - what's the point in a short-term loan? There is no option to buy and we have plenty of midfield options.

Nketiah - showed no enthusiasm for Palace. He will be available in the summer on a free if we're still interested.

Plange - an inexpensive acquisition and worth a punt.

Hopefully, there will be some money saved for a decent summer window when certain players leave.
