None; and unless we have been haggling for a while, no chance a club like palace will battle it out with other clubs in some unedifying last day winter fist fight.

Any deal for Barkley would have to be permanent as you can’t loan more than one player from same premier league team. Not sure why’d we want either to be honest

Everton are also in for Dele Alli , so thats the end of that . We should really check the phones for bugs. Or maybe we have a mole in our ranks .

Leaving aside whether I think either or both of these two are desirable targets, I do wonder if we might not get into a last-minute pissing match for Barkley, Alli, or even Lingard. I say this simply because it's clear from the pursuits of Ramsay and Van De Beek, neither of which came off, that it seems like Vieira does want a "high-quality creative/attacking midfielder" and it may just be that the board want to keep him happy. If that's so, these are probably the three options that could be considered in play at the last minute. I don't expect any of these to come in but in view of the above, I wouldn't be totally gobsmacked if one of them did. Patrick's made it quite clear he would like someone to refresh things this window. The board may just be inclined to give him what he wants if the right deal can be struck.

TBF I don't know why Everton would want JVDB and Ali. Would play the same position. I'd be very interested in Barkley. He's wasted the best years of his career moving to Chelsea. Not sure if its a slight on his ability that he cant get in ahead of Jorginho or Kante. I'd take him over Ramsey

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Wouldn't be interested in either. Neither play in a position that fits our system and both have barely played for a year, so would need several matches to get up to speed. Even van der Beek, who is an absolute upgrade on our midfield, would have been a risky signing. All 3 have barely played in 2 years, would take at least 5-6 games to git up to speed/match sharp, by which point 1/3 of their loan has gone. With Brentford and Norwich up next, if we were to bring anyone in, especially on their wages, they would need to be able to hit the ground running. IF we did any business today, I'd much rather it was focused on players who can be bedded in for next season than spend £100k+ p/w on a player that we can't keep and are unsure of how quickly they could make an impact. I'd love us to be competing with Liverpool for Fabio Carvalho on the basis of offering more first team opportunities than them, even if it was buying him and loaning him back for rest of season. I'd also love to see us bring in someone like Sander Berge, who would fit our system perfectly and ease him into the first team for next system after his injuries - on the proviso medical is fine - instead of taking on another stop gap for the rest of the season. It'll be hard enough to replace Gallagher in the summer, without adding another loan CM to the mix.

If either were firing on all cylinders they would be getting games at their clubs which would rather suggest both are spent (it happens) and on the way down rather than players on the way up which are the ones we should be looking at . For the right price though ?

I agree with this. No high priced loans in midfield, not worth it. Also, Barkley and Alli have been two of my least favourite players. Maybe playing for Palace would change that, but I doubt it. Originally posted by JohnB
