Now Benitez has gone they're looking for a replacement and, surprisingly in my view, Martinez is being touted as a possibility. They seem attracted to ez's. But what a mess they're in with their managers. It would seem that the club's owner Farhad Moshiri is a major cause of their problems. Having sacked Martinez in 2016 after 3 years in charge, they got through 9 more. So glad we don't have an owner like Moshiri and I bet Andros is regretting his move there now. Be interesting to see how this pans out for what was once a great club.

Someone on a news now feed was saying something like 9 managers in 6 years & £540 million spent on transfer fees - Also Benitez had been instrumental in getting rid of the DOF Marcel Brands so he would have more say in recruitment. Not a wonderful position to be in - I guess Duncan Ferguson will try to steady the ship again for a while -

Rafa was much praised earlier in the season especially over his bargain buys Andros and Gray. The gap between success and failure can be a couple of injuries or reverses and just bad luck. I wonder who they will wheel in next. It's a revolving door whoever it is.

The Everton owner must be tone deaf. The fans never wanted Benitez because of the Liverpool connection and so it has proved. His first choice now seems to be Martinez who had a good go at Everton but was sacked after 3 years as they were going backward. I don't get why it would make sense to go back in for him. Potterball anyone?

Martinez seems like the wrong answer. Everton seemed in less disarray when he was there before and still they were underperforming. There are questions over whether he has really got the best out of Belgium given the players in their squad. Is he really a better club manager for being away from the daily grind for three or four years? Potter won't go there mid-season. Personally if I was in charge I'd leave big Dunc in charge until the end of the season and plan for what happens then. The only manager who will go there at the moment is one who is inexperienced or one in need of a job. You could see Nuno ending up there out of desperation if they don't go for Martinez. With a combined outlay of around £1 billion we are still above Everton and Villa. Puts complaints about Parish and Dougie into perspective.

With you on this in terms of putting Duncan in charge till the end of the season & then take stock - but I think that ultimately they will worry so much about the prospect of relegation ( & its financial impact) that they will appoint someone with more experience at the earliest possible opportunity (especially if NUFC look as though they are going to buy themselves out of trouble) Originally posted by taylors lovechild

Potterball anyone? but he didn't fail because of his Liverpool connection? in fact he was probably hired because of it, and the success he had there. A strange one Everton. Like Spurs, it seemingly doesn't matter who they bring in, the end result is always 'Nearly'. Ancolotti was their best in recent years. but even he didn't pull up any trees, and ended up walking away. It suggests an infrastructure issue. Over all a shining example of how difficult it is to run a club, even when you have the required desire for success and also the pockets deep enough to acheive it.
