the people 'in the know', said it's shyte. But what would they know.

- The Saxophone, invented by Mr Adolphe Sax. The experts said it didnt hit the notes bang-on , like other instruments, hence destined to be a failure. The Saxophone was regarded as a musical toy for weirdos for nearly 80 years before Jazz men found a new way to breathe life into it.

- The Beatles.....guitar bands are so passé.

- The KFC Chicken formula, rejected by dozens of investors.

- The novel 'Catch 22' ...... rejected by all the publishing houses

- The Honda 50. Was rejected by serious bikers, serious motor traders & magazines, and serious investors. One of the most successful motorbikes ever.

what others ?

IBM pooh poohed the idea of people having their own personal computers, so allowed Bill Gates to storm in with Windows. They then had to play 'catch up' when Microsoft changed the world.

Maggie saying in 1969 that there won't be a woman PM in her life time.

But that was probably mind games.

Correct. Bill Gates didn't even develop DOS the first operating system he bought it off another start up and then sold it to IBM.
Windows the replacement to DOS was developed by Rank Xerox and Gates was inspired (I'm trying to be polite) to develop it.

it is, of course, possible to get panned even after your success.

I heard a rumour of Tom Waits at a small rural pub in Ireland. shuffling over to the piano in the corner. Banging out a few tunes before the Landlord asked him to quieten down 'all the screeching and noise, its upsetting some of the elderly folk who want a quiet drink'
