I know there were 3 other threads on Palace Talk, but they were about dates & our players. This thread if wanted/used is for the comp as a whole.

Ive just finished watching Senegal V Zimbabwe resulting in a Senagalese win 1-0 94th min pen from Mane. Cheik played as captain & as a No8 centre midfield. The standard is awful(atm) hoping it improves as comp progresses.

Next up @ 16.00 is Morocco V Ghana. Sky seem to be broadcasting all the games with the bbc also doing a few. Here's a link to the match for those that want to watch.

Without being rude, the tournament is dross and needs a rethink. In my mind it is not worth releasing Premier League players to get exposed to this. It's kind of a conference standard on worse pitches.

You're not being rude at all AS, just finished watching Algeria V Sierra Leone(0-0) it was mind numbingly crap, Algeria feigning injury any & every time(& the ref falling for it) & most of them didn't know what part of their body was supposed to have been injured.

Nigeria V Egypt on atm 1-0 Kelechi Iheanacho its a far better game than previous ones & its on Red Button

This tournament always seems more of an irritant than a benefit to the football universe. What is the point?

OK, it's good for the African nations to have a shop window, but I go with the point made by AS, why expose Premier League players to the risk of injury in a tournament that has little international meaning. It also disrupts the players' home sides team selection, although, come to think of it, without Afcon we may not be seeing Eze and Olise on the pitch together.

I think I've just come round to thinking it's a terrific tournament after all.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Really doesn't help given their desire to get the world to take the AFCON seriously.
