Reading Central Midfielder. 26yo with good reputation. End of contract in Summer 22. Would be a good replacement for Luka?

He would be definitely worth a punt.

Readings Best player by all accounts. I have seen him play centrally in midfield and also just behind the strikers. Good technically and admirable work rate.Takes free kicks over a wall and has taken free-kicks from distance.Like Mason Mount he was born in Portsmouth and Swift was at Chelsea before Jaap Stam signed him for Reading on a Free Transfer.

We should definitely be taking a punt on guys like this IMO. If it works out, its the deal of the year. If not, its not going to be an expensive mistake. Would be able to pick him up for relatively nothing Obviously not the same calibre as Gallagher, but has a very similar set of attributes. We are never going to have the biggest budgets so like with Hughes and Olise we are going to need to be smart. And if we can pick up players like Nketiah and Swift for basically nothing.

He’s not a Luka replacement, more so a number 10 but not really a number 8. In short, he is a luxury type player (Eze, Olise are much better). Doesn’t put a shift in and I can’t really see where he would fit into our side. It’s a no from me.

Many many years ago I overheard the words of a gentleman stating that Bill Shankly asked a scout about a player he had been sent to watch. The scout started off by saying "Well er" in a manner which was less than enthusiastic and gave the impression that he was not overly enamoured by what he had seen. Shankly immediately interjected and informed him that he wasn't interested in the player !
