commensurate with my dislike of Billionaire clubs with plastic fans & fake heroism........ you got to love any league that employs part-time footballers ? Just a few hundred fans supporting their team every weekend.

Plasterers, Carpenters, Lorry drivers....kicking a ball about at the weekend.

Is this the best Semi-professional league in the World ? or what other countries can compete with this ?

Regale us with your stories, opinions or other info please.

Great players who were discovered at the bottom of the football ladder ? Ian Wright. What others ?

If big money has destroyed football, then look to the skint leagues to see what football came from - including the 1861 Crystal Palace.

Jeff Stelling supports Hartlepool. Veritable giants compared to the teams discussed here.

Is this League a nightmare for any referee to work ?

Managerial Careers : it is well known that Ole Gunnar Solscear managed Molde to success in Norway. Who the feck are they ? And why so few managers at Prem clubs who proved themselves at the lowest levels ?

Is the National League a nursery for great talent, or a retirement home for losers ?

The Hackney Marshes. 88 pitches. What a spectacle.

compared to the Prem , How does the profile of players differ : age, background, nationality, temperament.

Wilfried Zaha gave great credence to the thousands our hours playing a kickabout in the metal cages of our local 'hood with all the local yoof. Ditto some of the best Brazilian footballers ever....learned on the streets of their hometown.

Is this the league where you see fat players, bald players & the goalkeeper fall over when he misses the ball for a goal-kick ?

The relationship between lower leagues & professional academies ? is this relationship real or non-existent ?

Health & Safety : is it more dangerous playing against eejits every week ? A scottish rural friend has regaled me with tales of MMA-type football matches in his childhood.

Funny stories of the amateurism & modesty of the whole Lower league experience.

The bedrock of the Premier League ? the lower leagues.

I've always followed Kidderminster Harriers, they had a fat captain, Graham McKenzie, genuinely fat and pretty rubbish. They also had goal scoring sensation Kim Casey - more goals than games. Definitely could have been a pro but didn't want to. So many stories. Was there at all the cup games, if any of you remember that.

Come on you Harriers, matched our previous run (where I went to all the matches)! Beat the mighty Reading, hopefully Selhurst next.

76 matches in a season. Gulp. Love the bit about never once going in his own penalty area.

Andy Thorn was appointed Kidderminster manager but he was only in the role for a few months.
John Pemberton also managed the club.

There were Jan Molby and Jeff Kenna, but the most successful was Graham Allner. He was in the league, last I knew but could be anywhere.

He was hilarious and still used to take everyone on, and beat them, when he was about 40. The keeper at the time was Paul Jones. Went on to bigger things, Southampton and Wales.
Paul Davies was 'ocker' Davies, Ocker basically means rough. I remember his brother saving me (as a kid) from Cheltenham hooligans. He just lamped a couple.

Off the top of my head, West Ham knocked out Kidderminster last time, with a Goalkeeping mistake. I think it was Rose in goal who fumbled a cross, one nil, was it a replay? 30 years or so ago.

Paul Jones was the first goalkeeper to come on as a substitute in a FA Cup final replacing Antti Niemi for Southampton in 2003.

Paul Jones was the first goalkeeper to come on as a substitute in a FA Cup final against Arsenal coming on as substitute for the injured Antti Niemi.

He was the first ever goalkeeper to make a substitute appearance in an FA Cup final

Just for the record,I knew this fact as part of my revision for the challenging football quiz league I participated in several ago but thank you for repeating what I posted and confirming that my information was accurate.

What I failed to mention was Paul Jones had been signed 3 times by David Jones, was a Liverpool supporter and used to work on a farm.
