Doesn't appear to a thread on this. All things Ashes to be discussed... Shame about the 5th Test in Perth being cancelled, but that is likely to suit us as 4-0 sounds better than 5-0. We'll need to pull out some unexpected magic to get anything from this. The return of Stokes is a boost, and Root will have to be at his best for us to have any chance of bringing home the urn. I fear we don't have enough pace in our attack. Wood could be our key bowler and I'm excited to see if Robinson can continue his impressive start. Action starts tomorrow night at midnight from The Gabba being broadcast on BT Sport.

My prediction is 0-3. We just aren't very good....hopefully I'm wrong though. Predictions that Robinson will be our best bowler and Root the best batsman....though you probably wouldn't get long odds on a betting ticket for that. Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Dec 2021 4.31pm)

It looks like Anderson is being rested as he has a poor record at The Gabba and they're looking to keep him fresh for the day/nighter at Adelaide where he'll be more effective with the swinging pink ball. If that's the case, probably a good tactical decision to keep him out.

Probably the least prepared, most distracted squad to have been sent over - what with all that's going on it would have perhaps been better to have billed the tour as something less auspicious - (Acknowledging that the Ashes series needed to be shelved at least until Covid was in hand) In any event given that we are there & its clearly considered an Ashes tour I will be grateful if we can limit the damage as much as possible ( get some assistance from the weather) & perhaps get away by avoiding a complete whitewash.

I haven't looked at the timeline but I would imagine that by the time the racism investigation started & had gathered sufficient momentum it was probably already too late to pull out of it. Originally posted by steeleye20
