Just seen this little snippet regarding TM & MG being 'possibly' called up to the senior squad for the March friendlies, Thoughts . . .

I think it's a matter of when, not if, for Guehi - already captain of U21s and very popular with the camp, by all accounts.

I think him, Ben White and Tomori will compete for Mings & Coady's places over the next year or so, and we'll see the latter two phased out.

If I'm brutally honest, I think Mitchell has a way to go before he could be considered an international standard player, but with the rate he's developing, it's possible.

His problem is that Shaw and Chilwell are both very good players in front of him - we're less strong at centre half.

Mitchell has made the most tackles in the Premier League this season. I was thinking he's not far off one of the best. Quietly improving all the time.

Agree with this.

Yes for Marc, a little to early for TM. Especially considering how attacking top full backs play. England probably have the best suite of fullbacks in world football.

Quantity of tackles isn't the best metric as it's obviously dependent on how often you're run at, so I don't think it's particularly proof of much - the defenders at the top clubs do far less defending, so naturally their quantity metrics are always down.

Having said that, Mitchell is always amongst the highest for tackle success % which is a better measure - defensively, I agree he is not far off one of the best.

Going the other way however, he's streets behind Shaw and Chilwell as a creative threat - plenty of room to learn though and he's already showing promising development on that front.

Why is there a desire for our players to play for England. There is no benefit at all for supporters of the clubs they come from.
I remember when we had a number of players play for England in the early nineties, Wright left as soon as he could, Thomas and Gray weren’t the same players after and hankered for big moves, Salako got injured with England and was never the same again.
International football is a nightmare for clubs and nobody really has any interest until the World Cup.

I tend to agree to some extent. When players come back injured from pointless internationals it's even worse.

In my opinion neither are ready for the top level just yet. It is a step up again (well, against the top teams it is but not against the likes of San Marino).

Should be looking at next season and the next tournament before they will have the right amount of experience.

I also think Gallagher is not ready to play against the top teams. He looked ok against San Marino but nothing more. It looked for a lot of the time that he was searching to find the correct position on the pitch. That positioning will come to him naturally when he gains more experience.

The more players we have playing for England the easier it will be to attract players of a similar standard, if going to Palace is seen as a blocker to an International call up then the quality of player that will come reduces. AWB did not get a lookin while at Palace but as soon as he moved to Man U straight in the Squad

I don't think AWB has ever been called up - fans of clubs like ours have such a chip on their shoulder about this sort of thing.

Its potentially just a good barometer of our progress. Top teams have top international talent.
