.....and a simple question. Why do many more managers than players get sacked ? surely the accountability must travel in all directions. from Mesut Ozil to Jason Puncheon.....we see underperforming every week. and as for the Red-card specialists. Game losers with a gobby mouth and less self discipline. Do they ever get fired for throwing another game ? answers on a postcard please

The Chelsea guy Mutu? for doing drugs about 20 years ago. The reason they aren't is down to transfer value. Youth player breaks the law doing something nasty he will be sacked if it's Harry Kane or the like the club will do all in their power to keep him until they get a good offer.

Players are seen as bigger assets and you can not select a player or discipline them. You only have one manager you stick with or you pay off their contract and hire someone else. Some managers are seen as assets but they never want to lose successful or target achieving managers. Well owners don’t. Because it can all fall apart and has done many times.

Then in some clubs, the manager is ok, the players ok, but the board of management (& owner) sucks. can they ever get sacked ?

One you get a contract you’re pretty much guaranteed to receive so much over so many years, which can be the danger with older players rather than younger ones needing/wanting further big contracts. On performance, sport is competitive so you can’t be ‘sacked’ for bad results. If you don’t perform in normal jobs you can be sacked, although sometimes you might get made redundant or it goes through tribunal that you aren’t delivering. Or demotion.

well of course Marlon King deserves the sack for breaking the nose of a girl in a nightclub. And his manager does not get the sack ? but what about genuine honest workman players ? players who are just not good enough ? trying their best, and their best is not good enough.
