when the camera spanned past the Man City fans recently , i was wondering if it was some kind of a retirement home ?

there was 50 to 100 old geezers in black jackets all grinning toothy smiles. And a bunch of ugly bvggers too.

male, pale and stale. ( with the exception maybe of the Arsenal supporters ).

I agree it's a big problem.

Young people today simply cannot afford a season ticket what with student loans, house prices etc etc.

Certainly in the PL football fans are an aging population however I doubt the PL cares as long as fans can afford Sky TV.

I would love to see an owner massively reduce ticket prices and it can be done I believe our ticket sales are £10m pa in PL terms not that significant.

Granted I am middle class, but I always though the season tickets was pretty good value. c.£25 a match for a top level match feels good value.

Hasn't it always been the case that the majority who attend matches are older, working men? If you look at clips of games in the 50s and 60s all you can see is a sea of blokes in a collar and tie topped off with a cloth cap. Not many kids went to matches then. When dad took me to Selhurst in those days it felt like I was just one of a very few.

Like most sport, football has been heavily influenced by corporate money, the so called 'prawn sandwich' brigade who attend without any real interest in the club or the game in general. Then of course, in the 70s it became an excuse for a fight and the violence around the game caused many to keep their children away.

Thank goodness for Selhurst and the Holmesdale lot who create such a crazy atmosphere. Many clubs would love to have that enthusiasm in their stadiums and I suspect that's what you're driving at, although I can't clearly remember what the crowd looked like at Man City.

Anyway, who are you calling an old geezer?!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

When Dad took me to Selhurst in '57, I think I was the only one - all the rest were boys.......

does the crowd at Selhurst properly reflect Thornton Heath, South Norwood & North Croydon ?

or is just a bunch of blow-ins from the Home Counties ? people with historical & ancestral ties to SE25 but long since emigrated to greener pastures ?

I assume you’re referring to people who’ve supported the club through thick and thin, and thinner, for decades, costing thousands upon thousands of pounds, committing to season tickets, match tickets, programmes, merchandise, food and drink. If it wasn’t for the people it sounds like you wouldn’t mind tossing to one side, there wouldn’t be a Palace or a professional club. Why don’t you look at getting rid of all the pubs in the area too. It’s almost there so not that challenging to achieve.

the general theme of the thread is about Stadia crowds being male, pale, and stale. And not really reflective of the demographics of their nearby streets.

Try to walk past Croydon College and tell me its a Palace stronghold ? you could a fooled me.

‘Could a’ ???

Can you clarify what the purpose of your point is, why you describe people who, without their loyalty, there would be no professional football, what your wish is and how you propose or think it’s achieved?
