A bloke called Mo Drake, who died in August aged 93, created the slogan 'Beanz Meanz Heinz' over a couple of pints in the Victoria pub in Mornington Crescent. That was in 1967 and his slogan was voted the best of all time. It was good for sure, but I always liked 'Mash Means Smash' and the little aliens that went with it. What slogan gets your vote?
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

One of my favourites was the Fiat Strada ad of 40 years ago "Handbuilt by Robots" to the stirring music from the Barber of Seville

Coke and Macdonalds adds often good, although I don't even use them. Guinness for strength, A Mars a Day helps you work rest and play, god knows what Marathons did, Bet you can't put a Fruit Pastille in your mouth without chewing it, I feel like Chicken Tonight. I pay no attention to adverts obviously. The Bond DHL advert is good currently, but if you see it more than three times in a day, you've had enough.

Slight side step. According to the latest studies, it’s the sonic branding that is now a brands most distinctive asset. 8.5 times more likely to bring a brand to mind vs any visual branding (incidentally a slogan was 1.19). Statistically the most effective (recall and propensity) in the UK is Just Eat. Its hard to say that without singing the jingle.

2 of my current favourites are 1) The KFC ‘’Biiiig DEAL’’ where she tries to sound as hard, street and cool, or so she believes, as possible. 2) The EE advert, well I think it’s just a radio ad. ‘’Her signal, no.’’ ‘’No likes, no hashtags, no hearts from her followers.’’ ‘’No not her followers’’ in an alarmed and shocked tone. This does make me chuckle. ‘’No not her followers’’ lol

The one that has that effect on me is two police cops talking to each other in baby voices. I don't even know what it's advertising. I remember one from the 1950s. Picture of a snowman, with snow falling, singing: "I'm the Veno's snowman, Call me pop,

He was being offered tea and was asked whether he'd like Ceylon, Assam, Darjeeling, etc. "No, no," he said - "that stuff the monkies advertise will do fine."
