I see the main article on Holmesdale is the Worst 5 Palace Managers, listed as :-

#5 Alan Pardew
#4 Ian Holloway
#3 Neil Warnock
#2 George Burley
#1 Frank de Boer

Whilst stats may point to these managers, I think that is bit unfair on some.

Pardew - he did very well when he firs came in, but to me he always seemed to gamble on games. Never settle for draw, which led to losses. Could have gone the other way.

Holloway - he got us into the playoffs (despite a drop off in results), but then through the playoffs and final, into the PL. I think having Murray injured didn't help his cause.

Warnock - once again did very well in his first spell, but as he has shown he does struggle in the PL. But by no means the worst.

De Boer - contentious maybe, but despite the results some of the football was actually quite good to watch. Had Zaha not been injured in the 1st game and had he not tried to change everything all at once, he might have been ok.

There have been far worse managers in my opinion :-

G.Burley (yes, I would agree with that)
P.Taylor
T.Francis
A.Smith (the worst manager I have seen at Palace, he was cause of us almost going to Div 1)

Although I was around, I can't quite remember Dario Gradi and Alan Mullery but I suspect they definitely should be on that list.

Interesting to see that in the modern era Dave Bassett has the highest win percentage of 48% from 1996 - 1997.

On a results basis Malcolm Allison wasn’t great but he’s not unpopular.

Alan Smith and Ian Dowie, and before anyone says Dowie got us promotion no he didnt, Andy Johnson got us Promotion, who was bought by Trevor Francis

I think you're right because we have had some right rubbish over the years. Taylor and Mullery immediately spring to mind. But there's more and worse than what is listed there.
Pardew nowhere near our worst, nor Warnock, or Ollie. They were not brilliant, but no where near the worst.

Is this really what fans think? I've watched some truly dreadful stuff over the years - not sure it was down to bad managers, often more down to what the owners were not doing.

Got us promoted to the Premier League for the 1st time in the 93/94 season & yes, he also got us relegated the following season, my daughter was Palace mascot last game of season away to Newcastle Iain Dowie scored both our goals in a 3-2 loss.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Wouldn’t have Parder, Warnock or Holloway on that list at all. Much harder getting results in the top division for a club like ours. If they had been our manager in the lower divisions they would be in the top managers listing. Pardew got us to a cup final. Certainly would have Mullery as the worst manager ever in my time watching Palace. He is the only manager that made me stop coming to Selhurst. In fact I took up the whistle so that I could be distracted on a Saturday afternoon. Even then after a game with a 2pm kick off and if it was nearby to Selhurst I would sneak in to get the last 10 mins or so - I couldn’t keep away :-)

According to this, Sir Steve was far more successful than I ever remember and won 565 games for us.

Yes, I have him in the memory bank as getting us to two semi finals in one season, in the bad old days, surely worth some gravitas in the bad managers list?
