At the start of this year, I managed to see a Banksy at St Leonards. (see photo).

some gimp had tried to paint over it within a couple of days. Thankfully, Hastings Council had already covered it with a protective screen

Having moved locations, the other day I saw another Banksy. Again by the seaside, it depicts a pink lighthouse on top of two large rocks.

Let's hop the local council get this protected ASAP

Is Banksy the darling of the media establishment ( BBC etc ) because of his political angle ?

The greatness of an artist is as much to do with all the spin as anything else.

Try looking at renaissance 500 portraits ? now slip a copy of the Mona Lisa in among them. Show all 501 Portraits to a tribesman from, say, Papua New Guinea......and ask him which picture is worth a thousand times the price of some of the others.

he won't get it.

there are hundreds of clowns at art college just as talented as Banksy.

try doing a graffiti-show if you lean to the right , and see how long your art lasts ? even if the technical expertise is pretty good.

Since Ancient Rome, artists have always sold their soul to the devil for 30 pieces of silver. Banksy is no different.

well i do like the picture of the two policemen snogging. To clarify my point above. Lots of the stuff of Banksy is good. Its the media fawning all over him that irks.

He can vandalise my garage door any time, his paintings go for millions.

More likely to get it done by one of his 'disciples' costing you a wedge to get it removed/painted over.

Never seen one in the flesh, but I do have a book of his most famous work. Love what he does and where he does it.

My favourite is, of course, Girl With Balloon that shredded as soon as it was sold at auction for £1.04m. [Link]

Recently been sold again for £18.5m!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

On a trip to Israel a couple of years back we took the A rather scary bus ride into Bethlehem. My wife wanted to see the church, I wanted to see the Banksy work on the wall. Whilst there we visited Banksy’s hotel. Pretty cool.

But that's art right. Is it ever judged on its technical execution? Maybe at A level.

Banksy captures the zeitgeist, which gives him cultural currency.

Haha

As for his art, I do find him to be very creative it how he articulates his point, regardless of whether I always agree with him. It's as much the 'who he is' aspect that keeps him in the news I'd say.
