Plenty of experts on here when it comes to naming the Palace squad, so what are you going to do with England now you've got the job? They don't exactly fizz as a cohesive unit do they? Watching them play is rarely an uplifting experience. To start with you'll obviously drop Kane. But who to replace him with? Do you stick with Grealish or is he over-hyped? Does Rashford fit into your team and what about Foden? Shaw looks good in an England shirt, but do you stick with Pickford in goal? Southgate tried to pick an attacking formation, but it misfired. So, who fits in your team?
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

So, who fits in your team? ITV were alluding to Southgate playing 2 No 8's ie Mount & Foden & how in that the 'experiment' didnt work. Kane is so off form ever since he never got his move to Citeh. Sterling is just a headless chicken running around in circles. So, who would i choose, hmmm. Pickford Subs: Any 5 from 12 remaining squad. This is just my opinion/selection & i know people will agree/disagree with it, fine. Im just replying to POG's thread.

Potentially an unpopular opinion but the biggest issue for me is Declan Rice. Really talented defensive player, but cannot make the midfield ‘tick’. He is great out of possession but not great with the ball. He also doesn’t seam to want to take the ball off the CBs and be the one to dictate play. IMO Jordan Henderson needs to play alongside him to get the midfield working.

My observations of latest game was Kane is totally out of form for both club and country. Hungary manned up Sterling in same way teams target Zaha and rest of team could not create much.

No need for any panic or major changes - this squad reached the final of the last tournament and will be trusted with at least the next one. Kane, though woefully short of form, is still far and away our best striker - Abraham and Watkins both good players but a clear step down. Kalvin Phillips was a big miss in midfield and he's probably the person who's done best our of the recent internationals - his absence was really felt. I'd like to see Bellingham get more minutes when one of Rice/Phillips are absent. Sterling is the one who's starting spot has to be under fire - there's so many options in wide positions, and if he continues to be a squad option at City, hard to imagine one of Foden, Saka, Sancho, Rashford or Greenwood don't creep in front of him for the national team. Grealish looks like he needs a rest but should be a shoe-in to start.

He's got the most passes into the final third and most carries into the final third of any central midfielder in England so far this season. Phenomenal player.

This england teams got a lot of issues. Defence- that actually seems pretty solid. can play 3 or 4 relatively easily Midfield- we start running into Problems. So Id' go with Pickford

So Id' go with Pickford Sancho's last 3 seasons: 2018-19: 13 goals, 20 assists Bizarre link to free school meals - Rashford hasn't kicked a ball this season due to surgery. Kane, who has averaged more than a goal every other game across nearly a decade, top scored 3x premier league seasons and a world cup, is certainly not crap. By what measure is Ings better?

All Fair points...... For me, Sancho looks lost in the England Team. All promise and no Product. His stats at Dortmund are excellent, I agree with that, but that hasn't transferred to international Performances. Yes I know that I shouldn't link the Rashford think with the free School meals, but it seemed to me that it was a bit of A Coincedence that his form dropped as his duties off the pitch increased. though your probably right, it's more likley injury related. Kane is an enigma. No He's not crap. normally. but he is at the moment. His record speaks for itself, but it feels like he's not that player at the moment. Do we persist? I wouldn't. What else does he bring to the team if it's not Goals/Assists? Ings seems like the most likely alternative to me. Saying that, be interesting what Toney would bring.

We had an easy route, but beat everyone to get to the final fairly convincingly using Plan A. It didn't work in the final and GS Stuttered. Hopefully everyone will learn from it and become better next time.

I think Denmark only lost one game between the World Cup and the Euro's. Italy had won something like 30 games in a row and had to take us to penalties. Not too worried about the Hungary game. They got a fortunate penalty, incidents like that are generally how big teams drop points from time to time. We should have kept Greelish on though. I thought the rest of the team were too respectful to the opposition, we regularly treat Championship quality international teams like top class European teams. We need to take more risks against poorer sides.
