Yes, putting some names on a Tube map really is going to make everyone equal and happy clappy. I expect the gang killings will end overnight. Well done Sadiq. Bet it was cheap too. Just a few mil.

What an insult to the iconic station names, some of which will be remembered for protecting lives in the second world war and some dating back to when there were just fields, like Charing Cross. There is tradition and history attached to London place names which goes back centuries.

If true, this story smacks of a cheap stunt by the mayor (or not so cheap as ASCPFC says).

More importantly, what's happened to Mornington Crescent?

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

This has been done with signers, song names, scientist, and things that piss off daily mail readers in the past. But this HoL so their will be an inevitable claim that promoting names of black people that have helped society is somehow an attack on it.

It's just a bit of fun, and could be a helpful learning aid. All those right wingers that claim they are knowledgeable and well read might be able to click on a name and learn something. There could be a mutual benefit into helping kids find out about more about the history of each area. Such as how the stations were used to protect British citizens from Nazi's. And promote the expansion of the Mornington Crescent game in Schools.

Most people recognise that within black culture, there is a lack of positive role models. It will be interesting to see who objections to an attempt to promote positive black role models.

Meanwhile, back in the real world...

My inherent dislike for Sadiq Khan aside, if this is intended to raise awareness in some way then fair enough but it's not clear to me who the intended audience is for this. The Right Wing / anybody with racist leanings are unlikely to use it to educate themselves. I don't classify myself as either, but I really have no interest.

I don't see it as a '' bit of fun '' but equally I don't have an issue with it.

As for Black Role Models, they need to be alive and relevant to Today, not long forgotten historical figures - just my view of course.

Nice to see someone realise its just there opinion.

Khan is a terrible major, but I got the impression that this was something he has jumped on rather than instigated.

Unfortunately, no party has managed to promote a better candidate. Similar to all of Labour's shots at BoJo, they aren't effective unless a viable alternative is found. Labour aren't going to replace him, no matter how bad he is, as long as he wins elections.

Khan jumps on every bandwagon, chucks a few mil at it,
turns up for a photo, and then puts fares up. Kind of Boris lite, just without any actual achievements that anyone at all cares about. He's radical Islam one minute, banning risqué adverts, yet full on woke next minute, dancing at pride. If you invite him to a dinner party, give him at least two or three chairs, so that he can wear a different hat at each. Make sure you put in a booster seat.

Thanks for the perspective.
I personally think highlighting skin colour, whilst it was useful for highlighting discrimination in the past, is seeming causing division based on skin colour, in areas where it wasn't perceived to exist.
No doubt some graphic designers and project managers are now knee-deep in cash, thanks to this enlightening project.
