In our local Waitrose yesterday there were a number of empty shelves including a complete absence of loo rolls.

Signs were in evidence asking customers to be patient during the current difficulties caused by delivery problems (I can't remember the exact wording).

According to a staff member I chatted to, the Co2 and delivery shortages are being exacerbated by folk panic buying again. What is it with this desperation for loo rolls whenever there's a supply issue?

Anyway, this Co2 issue does appear to be causing problems in all sorts of areas (not least in the brewing industry) and the doom mongers are already forecasting a miserable Christmas.

Look out lads, just when we thought things were looking up too..........

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Everything seems to be rationed these days - including getting into Selhurst Park easily.

At least we have an opportunity to give loved ones an interestingly shaped parcel for birthdays and anniversaries.

BP and Esso shutting petrol stations, shortage of drivers apparently-nothing to do with brexit ,although lots of these eu chaps did drive HGVs here! On the plus side who needs to drive? Get on your bikes and find/cycle to work- as one top CONservative said! Its saving the planet, saving your hard earned shekles to pay that huge heating bill coming, and keeping you fit, you can cancel the gym membership-to pay the rising food bills! Win ,win, win, win, whats not to like? If all that fails, and you can"t afford your christmas prezzies, lets bring in Jacob, Jacob will sort it!

Perfect opportunity for business & you lot whinging on the sidelines.
Tesco & the likes have a perfect opportunity to recruit drivers by offering to pay for their HGV tests in return they must guarantee the drivers 12 months work & the drivers in return promise to work 12 months in return for their HGV test. It beats UBER.

Yep, I've just seen that fuel stations are being closed. Fortunately, I filled the tank this morning so should be OK for a while. What happened to all the HGV drivers anyway? It is tempting to suggest they were furloughed and now don't want to come back to work. But I'm sure any drivers on here will tell us otherwise.

Please stop encouraging folk to cycle everywhere. I used to cycle all over the place in my youth when there was a lot less traffic on the road. Now, frankly, they are a menace with their holier than though, look down their nose, helmeted, lycra clad, two abreast, mobile chicane behaviour.

It takes time to train a HGV driver Jim, we left loads back in europe, theres talk of giving the odd 10,000 of them a way back, temporary, its all down to brexit mate! Still, if we take them back, pay them well, maybe a bonus for coming, we need them, its win win ! Can you have a word with your countrymen to be kinder to us in gb Jim, we are your besties remember !

Errr, they are back home in Europe mate, brexit and covid are the problems we face, one of our own making, one an act of god! If we get Jacob and Nigel back to help boris, im sure we will be fine! Good move filling up today, use it sparingly, probably have queues longer than the turnstyles at palace before long!

Dream on . . .

In theory, it sounds great, BUT, at £1200.00 for a 9 day intensive course incl theory & driving tests its not financially viable. There are 100's of LGV drivers out there(myself incl) who will either need a re-test or refresher course.

The wages these companies are offering for LGV drivers is very poor, because in the 7-10 years prior to the pandemic shutdown they employed cheap east european labour.

The vast majority of towns & cities charge drivers to enter there areas, there are no facilities to accommodate drivers who have to stop after 4.5hrs & overnight. (most) Truck Stops charge anywhere between £25-£45 per truck per night, the facilities are abysmal, motorway service stations are the worst, dried inedible food on offer for about £13.00.

I'm fortunate, the DVLA wont allow me to take a re-test due to my age, most 'ex' drivers wont go back due to terms n conditions & there's a lot of them believe you me.

HGV firms are also headhunting binmen to retrain. So we may fix one problem and have another pop up like a massive game of sh*tty ‘project fear’ whack-a-mole.

Yes, lots of bin men have been "headhunted", leading to bin collections extended from 2 to 3 weeks around the country,. this has been going on for weeks. Still, on the plus side, if theres no food in the shops, no toys at christmas, there wont be much to put in the bin! The council could make the 3 week collection permenant, whats not to like?

We might all need to take a crash course with this guy to ensure there's a sustainable future ahead. He comes across like a genius hobbit. Joking aside though it's absolutely incredible what people are able to do...I wouldn't know where to start!

You will have to use copies of the Guardian instead.
